OVIEDO - Evelyn Watts Cloninger was born to Sunny and Eleanor Watts and grew up in Haines City, Florida. The daughter of a dairy farmer and teacher, her early years were spent riding horses, dancing, playing the piano, and singing in the chorus. After graduating from high school, she attended Florida Southern College, then went on to be one of only 3 female law students at Stetson Law. In 1975, she married the love of her life, Phil Cloninger, and in 1976, she became the first attorney (not just first woman attorney, but the very first) to open her doors in Oviedo, Florida.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Phil Cloninger, and her parents, James and Eleanor Watts. She leaves behind daughters Megan (Paul) Sladek, Ingrid (Zach) Warner, Kellyn (Matt) Janisz and Erin (Henri) Roesch, as well as the Friday night gang consisting of her grandchildren Charlotte, Carson, Owen, Audrey, Alivia, David and Ella. She also leaves behind a sister, Karen (Drew) Watts Murphy, brothers Jim (Debbie) Watts and Bill ( Nicki) Watts, and many nieces and nephews that she deeply cherished and continuously support-ed.
Memorial Service to be held at First United Methodist Church of Oviedo (263 King Street) on Sept. 13 at 4 p.m. with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Safe House of Seminole, P.O. Box 471279, Lake Monroe, Florida 32747.

I remember getting a call from Evelyn many years ago, after my story appeared in a Horizon Magazine. She searched for my number and called to tell me how much she enjoyed my story. I immediately identified Evelyn as a "member of my tribe." She was kind beyond comparison to anyone I´d ever talked to. I so regret never making it to her "farm" in Oviedo to ride on her get around mobile. You will missed by many, Evelyn. I´ll never forget our many discussions.

Evelyn was so kind, she was a customer I enjoyed working with. After I transferred to my new job/company I called her regarding a probate she handled and her last words to me was how happy she was for me that I'm in a happier place and to keep in touch. Not just a customer, she was a friend who celebrated others success and will be truly missed.

Brian and I, along with our entire family, extend our sincere condolences. Evelyn and Phil were friends and we were their clients, both having represented us as realtor and attorney in the sale of our first home in Oviedo in 1986. We mourned with Evelyn when Phil passed away and Evelyn has been a friend. She had spunk, wisdom and a keen sense of humor. She had such pride in her daughters and their spouses, but the apples of her eyes were those adorable grands who affectionately called her Mormor. Those weekend sleepovers will be wonderful memories for all of them forever. I only wish she had written the book so many of us encouraged her to write. Evelyn had such a way with words and could tell a story more eloquently than any writer I have ever known of. I, for one, will miss her.

I had the opportunity to be Evelyn's hairstylist. We spent most of our time talking about her grandbabies. My favorite story was how they would end their Friday evenings. They would all pile in her go cart including the 4 legged babies and ride around her property. I love and will miss her dearly

Dearest Cloninger Family,
Words cannot express my sadness in learning of the unexpected passing of your loved one. Mrs. Cloninger was so wonderful with my Mother, guiding her through her affairs with compassion, humor, and a tenderness that touched my heart. Mom passed this year, and Mrs. Cloninger has been my compass through a very painful time. She was much more to me than my attorney. She became my friend, shared her love for you, her family, with me often. You were a source of pride in her life, and she lit up when the grandchildren came in for their treat. Dear Megan, Ingrid, Kellyn, and Erin,
It is difficult to realize how much our parents impact our daily life. You will miss your Mom in little ways as well as major ones. You girls were her sunshine. We still have the reindeer costume your Mother sewed for Megan's first grade Christmas play. Your Father introduced us to this area and showed us how special it is as he talked about his children (the two he had at the time - it was a long time ago). We are sorry for your loss. Our memories of both your Mom and Dad are lovely ones. May your memories bring smiles to you all.
