True story. I forgot my lunch money and was sitting in the lunch room and she noticed that I had no lunch. She gave me the lunch money to purchase my meal that day! Almost 40 years later I have never forgotten that and based on the comments here she lived her life that way.

Ellen and Family: As I sat in the church on Saturday's service listening to the Pastor and Robert, I kept waiting for Aunt Evelyn to come in and sit at the organ with that great smile. I truly missed her and I had never been in the church without Aunt Evelyn being there. One of my great memories is going to visit her and when you walked in the door she immediately took you into the kitchen and fixed you a beverage with the tiny little ice cubes. I thought it was the greatest. She was a great caring person and will be forever missed. I am blessed that my mother Louise (her sister) and I could be with the family on Aunt Evelyn's day.

Ellen,

I am sorry about losing your Mom and hope you found comfort being with your family in Bristol. My husband is from Bristol, TN and the Akards are family friends so I know your family was well taken care of as you said goodbye to your Mom. As a fellow Social Studies teacher, I would loved to have met your Mom and shared stories of her experiences. Our thoughts are with you and your family.

SHE DISPLAYED HER CHRISTIAN CHARACTER BY THE KINDNESS SHE SHOWED TO OTHERS.

To the McDaniel Family:
I remember Mrs. McDaniel from Va. middle school. She was such a wonderful great and caring woman. She was my favorite teacher. I saw her and her husband about 6 years ago at the Cancer Center when my dad was having his treatments. I was surprised after ALL these years she still remembered me and called me by name. I had her in '80 or '81. She was always smiling, happy and was always upbeat. I am very sorry for your loss. She is now rejoicing with her husband in Heaven. I will never forget her. Praying for you for peace and comfort in the days ahead.

I have wonderful memories of this gracious lady who made me feel very much a part of VMS as a teacher in the late 70s and early 80s. She always had a smile on her face each day for her students and colleagues. One of my fond memories was her comment in regard to always be prepared with a spare pair of hose back in the days when all the female teachers wore high heels and dresses! She will be missed, and my prayers are with her family.

My Aunt Evelyn was the most patient, kind and loving person; she let me follow her through her yard work for hours telling me the name of every flower and tree. We would sit at the kitchen window and watch birds, and she taught me all their names. Every time I see a cardinal, a robin or a jay, I think of my Aunt Evelyn, and the promise that spring is coming. She gave me my nickname, "Boo."

Ellaine, Ellen, husbands and sons, and all the brothers and sisters, our loss is heaven's gain. "Aunt Evelyn" was a devout Christian and served as church organist and many other positions of Christian service and civic service. She was so giving and kind, so other-centered. She gave so much to her family, church and community. She will be greatly missed, but we know that she is with her beloved Lord and Savior and with Uncle Bob, at peace and at rest, until we meet again.

Love,

Lisa "Boo" (niece)

I shall never forget the wonderful times shared with Evelyn as we worked together in the Virginia School System.
She was a "one of a kind" special and wonderful friend!

I shall never forget her!

May sweet memories bring you joy, and may God's promise to reunite us in His Kingdom bring you peace.

With love and sympathy,
