Evelyn Wheeler

Evelyn Wheeler, 84, of Cape Coral, Fla., formerly of Latrobe, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, in Cape Coral Hospital. She was born Oct. 6, 1917, in Beatty (Unity Township), a daughter of the late George M. and Jeanne (Quinn) Wheeler. Prior to retirement, she was the administrator for Canteen Services at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Long Beach, Calif. She had also formerly been employed by the former Stupakoff Corporation and Imperial Lighting in Latrobe. She was a hard-working woman her entire life. Evelyn appeared in vaudeville acts as Little Evelyn performing with the Wheeler Sisters in the late 1920s and early 1930s. She also wrote a poem about Pearl Harbor that was published in, among many others, the Latrobe Bulletin the day after the attack. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Coral and a former member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Latrobe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Hull and Elnora Hunter. She is survived by her son, Barron W. Wheeler, with whom she made her home; her sister, Ruth Mae Depetris and her husband, Donald, of Cape Coral, Fla.; a close friend and caregiver, Ed Thomas of Cape Coral; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe, where service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Wilbert Boerstler officiating. Interment will follow in St. Clair Cemetery, Greensburg.
