Evvie Elizabeth Minnick

Evvie Elizabeth Minnick, 81 year old lifetime McIntosh County resident, died Thursday, October 15, 2009 in Muskogee. She was born on Wednesday, November 2, 1927 in Pierce, Oklahoma to Arthur and Margaret Watkins Waters. Evvie grew up in Pierce, OK where she received her education. She met, fell in love and married Gene Minnick in 1948. They settled in Checotah where she became a homemaker. She later worked as a cook at Midway Truck Stop and Eat Shop Cafe. Evvie later opened Evvie's Home Day Care, which she owned and operated for 15 years. After she retired, she began to quilt and spend time with her family. She as a member of the Elm Grove Baptist Church.Evvie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gene; 2nd husband Clifton Gill; three daughters, Margaret Ashley, Brenda Smith, and Debra Minnick; four grandchildren, Jacky Ashley, Kevin Ashley, Shannon Smith, and Justin Minnick; and one great-grandchild, Halle Mullins; 2 Brothers and 4 Sisters. She is lovingly survived by her Children: Joann Toney and her husband David of Webbers Falls, OK, Pinky Minnick, Kaye Spears, Ricky Minnick, and step-son Mike Gill, all of Checotah; fourteen grandchildren, Angela Horton, Brian Toney, Melissa Toney, Ricky Toney, Jimmy Minnick, Eric Minnick, Christy Spears, Ryan Minnick, Jequita Munoz, David Ashley, Brenda Minnick, Karen Hughes, Brandy Myers, and Jamie Gill; 27 great-grandchildren, BJ Hair, Stephanie Hair, Kelsie Ploesch, Whitney Toney, Kaylee Toney, Alexis Minnick, Shane Minnick, Dainjer Minnick, Jermaine Spears, Tommy Munoz, Heather Munoz, Marrisa Munoz, Felecia Munoz, Pam Ashley, Gary Ashley, Jerry Ashley, Bobby Ashley, Tammy Ashley, Junior Ashley, Nicole Ashley, Kaylee Ashley, Jennifer Ashley, Steven Minnick, Regan Hughes, Devan Hughes, Dalena Durrett, and Draven Myers; 10 great-great grandchildren and one sister, Dorothy Irwin and her husband Dennis of Lake Texhoma, OK, many nieces, nephews, other extended family and a host of friends.Viewing for Evvie will be 1-5 PM Sunday and 9 AM -8 PM Monday at Garrett Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at First Free Will Baptist Church of Checotah with Reverend Jerry Smith, officiating. Committal prayers and Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery with Dennis Irwin, David Ashley, Brian Toney, Jimmy Minnick, Eric Minnick, and Steven Minnick serving as Casket Bearers.
