Ezatolah Nadershahi Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 18, 2012.
Ezatolah Nadershahi, known to everyone as "Papa" passed peacefully on April 17, 2012. Devoted husband, loving father and proud grandfather, he is and always will be missed by those who were lucky enough to have been his family or his friend.

Papa was born in the city of Kermanshah in Iran, on October 23, 1926. Papa's strength and character were shaped in his early years while overcoming incredible hardship and by facing and defeating all the challenges that came his way.

Papa was a spiritual man with a loving heart and was exceedingly generous to anyone who needed his help. He was a brave young man, a risk taker who exhibited a keen sense of entrepreneurship in his teenage years.

At the age of 24, Papa was to meet the love of the rest of his life, Heshmat, and together they built a life and became loving parents to six children and proud grandparents to many grandchildren.

In Iran, Papa started many businesses and was known to all as a very fair man and his wisdom and counsel was sought out to settle many disputes in the community. In his pharmacy business, Papa was known to never charge those who couldn't afford to pay. He also owned and operated the largest dry cleaning plant in the southern Middle East. His business partnerships allowed him to open the first European style buffet restaurant chain in Tehran.

Unfortunately, the changing political climate in his beloved Iran forced him to move his family to the United States in the 1970's. Once there, Papa quickly established himself as a productive and valued member of his newly adopted country. At the same time he oversaw the continuing education of not only his children but any member of his family in need of his help and guidance.

As Papa's life progressed, he watched in pride as his children began their careers and building families of their own. Instilled with the values that Papa passed on to them, his children and grandchildren never ceased to fill Papa with intense joy. He also doted incessantly on his lovely wife and was never happier than when the family and a few pets were around him at home for holidays, parties and meals. His keen wit, infectious smile and joyful laugh had the power to draw all those around him into his happiness.

Papa's legacy is that of a man who overcame great obstacles, never losing sight of his desire to be a loving husband, a wonderful caring father and grandfather and of at all times teaching everyone around him to be generous in both spirit and action and that as long as your family is around you there is nothing that you can't overcome together.

We will miss you Papa.

Papa's 40th

What can I say about Papa? He is gone and all we have now are his memories and the legacy he has left behind. He was a teacher, a role model, a provider, a friend, a husband of over 60 years, and a father. He taught me about life and the people in it.

I used to be jealous of him always helping people. As a child I did not want to share my parents. As I grew older, I became jealous of his capacity for generosity and compassion. He helped people without talking about it. Family or strangers, it did not make a difference. I know his kindness will be one of his lasting memories.

A few weeks ago, he fell sick without any symptoms of a heart attack. At the hospital we were told he had a heart attack to everyone's surprise, even his doctor. But Papa was taking it in stride when I flew back to see him. He seemed ok and even then was trying to teach me about life and death. He wanted his family around him. That always made him happy and perked him up. He loved having his grandchildren with him. He always used to tell me how proud he was of them. I learned that the most important thing that he had was us, his family. Though he may never have said it out loud I know that he was really proud of what we have become. We are who we are now because we had a father like him. As most of you may know papa hardly showed his feelings. But he showed his love with work. He worked for over 64 years. He always told me that was enough for two retirements and how tired he was. He is at peace now, and we are here to carry on.

Unfortunately In a few short weeks, we witnessed how fast his health deteriorated. But his spirit was always there. When he could, he cracked jokes with Ajid, Nassrin or Nader and would not let them get away with anything. I remember when doctors said they could not do more for him, and how heart breaking it was for me to let the rest of the family know.

On his last night with us, I held his hand until his last breath. We have told him that we would be there for each other, no matter what. He found peace at last with his Creator, and that thought, is what made us get through the experience of losing our mentor, our model, our Papa.

He will be missed Holidays and family gatherings will be bittersweet because his place will always be empty. But, he will be with us. Since he has been gone, I find myself looking at our family pictures, and notice that he really hasn't left us. I see him in my son Arash's people skill, in Wylie's soulful demeanor, in Darius's eyes, in Cyrus's thoughtful looks, in Cameron's love of his mother, Agis's unconditional love of family, and Alex's mischievous looks. I see him in his grandchildren's laughter.

We lost a great man. He helped and supported many people in time of need, so did Mommy. We never forget his kindness and generosity.
