Faye Grinstead Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 9 to Jun. 11, 2008.
Faye Bennett Grinstead, age 64, of Hawkinsville, died Saturday, June 7, 2008 at the home of her daughter. Mrs. Grinstead was born Dec. 13, 1943 to Chester Lee Bennett and Florence Owen Bennett and lived all her life in Pulaski County. On Oct. 22, 2005, Mrs. Grinstead's youngest daughter, Tara Faye Grinstead, age 30 at that time and residing and teaching high school history in Ocilla, disappeared without a trace and has since remained missing. No greater grief could a mother ever have to endure. Faye carried herself throughout this personal tragedy with quiet grace and dignity, just as she had lived her life.Visitation was held from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday in the social hall of the First Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church in Hawkinsville. Dr. Gary L. Abbott of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and the Rev. Ricky Allen of First Baptist Church in Statesboro will officiate.Church organist Cheryl Howard will provide the prelude, as well accompany sisters, Vickie Greene and Jan McGuire, who will sing a duet. The Rev. Freddie Hogg of First Baptist Church in Pinehurst also will sing during the service.Other very special music will be played. "Send a Dream," written by and sang by Mrs. Grinstead's son-in-law, Dr. Larry Gattis, about the loss of her daughter, will be played. This song was recorded with vocalist Ginger Beecher and accompanied on guitar by Faye's only grandchild, Gabe. Perhaps the most touching of all will be a recording of Tara Grinstead singing "There's a Place for Us," that she performed as she competed in a beauty pageant back in 1998. Mrs. Grinstead was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chester L. Bennett, one sister, Murielda B. Wynne and two brothers, Lawrence L. Bennett and Albert C. Bennett, all of Hawkinsville. She was also preceded by a brother and sister-in-law, T. Kent Bennett and Kathryne D. Bennett, both of Butler. She leaves to cherish wonderful memories one daughter, Anita Grinstead Gattis, one son-in-law, Dr. Larry D. Gattis, and one grandson, the absolute light of her life, Gabriel David Gattis, all of Hawkinsville. Survivors also include two brothers, Rouel W. Bennett (Patsy) of Hawkinsville and Russell Bennett (Claudia Mae) of Griffin, and one sister, Elousie Ruble (Don), of Dalton. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Mae H. Bennett and Lucille C. Bennett, both of Hawkinsville and one brother-in-law, Merritt Wynne, of Hawkinsville. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also remain. She will be greatly missed by her closest, dearest and wonderful friend Barbara C. Woodard, of Hawkinsville who had been the steadfast source of strength and inspiration through all her life. A special cousin, Betty Jo Conner, also of Hawkinsville will remain to cherish sweet memories. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Texas EquuSearch, P.O. Box 395, Dickinson, Texas 77539, or by calling their office at 281-309-9500. Tim Miller, director and founder, has been diligently searching for Faye's missing daughter, Tara, since November 2005, and they continue to do so now. Mrs Grinstead put much hope, faith and confidence in this organization in finding her precious Tara. Fischer Funeral Home in Cochran is in charge of all arrangements.

Anita & family:
Please know that you are in my prayers. I was so sad to hear about Ms. Faye. Yes indeed she was a very lovely lady. I do know that she loved you and Tara very much. I will continue to pray for you and your family.

June 11, 2008

Dear Anita,
I have sat back in amazement as I have watched you these past 2.5 years. I do not know why God gives you almost immortal strength, but in his wisdom he knew you would endure much in your short life. I do not see you often, rarely in passing, as our boys are in the same school but 4 grades apart. I have lost a sister (by car accident) and had I not had my Mother, I truly would not have survived. You will need the hands of a thousand to hold you up when Tara is found. No---my dear---you may only need 500. May Our Lord constantly keep you.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

Mrs. Faye Grinstread was a true Southern Lady with a quite nature, she has stood up to great stress with Cancer and the disappearance of her youngest daughter Tara. But in her time of distress she had her family by her side, Anita and her family stepped in and cared for Faye in the quite way Faye would have wanted it to be, What a blessing to to have a daughter that would do that. My prayers are still with you all, take care of each other.

Anita and Family:

I just received word in church about Ms. Faye's passing and am heartbroken beyond words. The time that I have spent with her and the family looking for Tara and raising money to help continue search efforts helped me as a person because you brought me in as part of the family and I grew to love you all very much. Her earthly suffering is over now, I know she is walking with Jesus, and her soul is at ease concerning Tara now. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Mrs. Faye has been such a graceful Lady who has faced the pain of cancer and the horror of the disappearace of her daughter Tara with a steadfast hope and belief in God. She has her closure now and sweet Peace. To the family I admire the way you cared for Faye you will be blessed. My prayers and love for you all is never ending.

It breaks my heart to think of what this family has gone through. As I think of the mother who passed not knowing where her daughter was, I cry even harder. She has now found the answers to the questions that have been burning in her heart for the past 32 months. Your family has my deepest sympathies and y'all will remain in my prayers. May God bless and keep you.
