Ferdinand C. "Ferny" Flaman

As the guest book is about to close, I want to let you all know that Ferny and Jeanne will never be forgotten. I still look at the pictures from visit with them and my heart fills with love and fond memories of fun times. I pray for Jeanne, not knowing how she is doing. I always think about her and want you to know that your cousin in NJ is always holding all of you in my heart and remembering love, fun and family bonds. God Bless! I hope that you have found peace in the past year as you have the fondest of memories of your Dad and the wonderful parents you were blessed to be given. To the Flaman Family-
My deepest sympathies to your family. I never knew or met Coach Flaman however I am a Notheastern alumni and enjoyed many years watching his teams do well. I was there for all of the Beanpot victories especially the one before Terrance past away. That tribute to him after the Beanpot was a great moment in NU athletics. I have great memories (that I have passed down to my children) of your father and NU hockey. God Bless.

I just found Ferny's obituary as I was looking to find info about cousin Jeanne. I am devastated. I received a card from Ferny ths year letting me know that Jeanne is in the nursing home. I am so sorry to find this news and am remembering with such fondness the fun times my mother, Anita Ramsey, and I shared at their home in Westwood. I was just telling my daughter how much fun and how we all laughed so much at our visits. Ferny was a gentle, kind and fun person. My deepest condolences to the family. I was going thru old pictures today and found pictures of Jeanne and Ferny, Cheryl, Lauri, youn Ferny and other relatives from when we visited. I will always hold the fondest memories of Ferny and keep Jeanne and the rest of the family in my thoughts and prayers. Sending love from NJ, from a cousin who loves and cares about all of you. My father considered you one of his closest friends , and was honored to have been your best man when you married Jeanne 65 yrs ago. You lived a wonderful life, and you were a Hall of Famer in life, not just hockey.

With deepest sympathy, I never knew Fern as a hockey player but knew him as a coach, spending 4 years as his student manager and a number of years advising his student athletes. What stands out in my mind is the importance Fernie placed on education . I can't remember any Northeastern hockey player who played 4 years for Fern who didn't receive his degree.
The first word that comes to mind when I think of Fern is 'gentleman' Fern was one of the few true gentlemen I have known in my life. Fern was a big man whose passing will leave a big void for his family, friends and the hockey fraternity as well. Good by Coach

Fernie, you were the greatest.....my idol....

Fernie Flaman who died Friday night at age 85 was known to the world as a superb hockey defensemanfor the Boston Bruins,Toronto Maple Leafs,an award winning coach and a scout for the New Jersey Devils.
But Fernie Flaman was so much more to those who knew him. He was as honest, hardworking, and devoted loving husband and father as he was a hockey star on the ice.
He was a man who sought perfection in all he did even cooking the perfect Roast and being a superb host of a dinner party.
Holidays at his home were filled with laughter and good food which was often supervised by Fernie in the kitchen with his devoted and loving wife Jeanie. The two oof them working like a award winning team. Jean and Fernie were rarely apart from each other and their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and family came first before all else.
One of the qualities I admired most in Fernie was his humility; He rarely boasted about his Stanley Cup Championships and had to be prodded to show the championship rings he had acquired. He tried to avoid the spotlight but would acquiesce to public appearances if it would further the interest in Hockey among young people.
Fernie Flaman was the kind of role model a sports hero should be, humble, generous, honest, reliable and most of all a dedicated husband and father and grandfather and friend.
I know God has welcomed him into the heavenly home he has prepared and that he has joined his son who went home to God many years ago.

Coach Fernie, thank you for taking me under your wing when I was a kid growing up in Boston. You let me travel with the team in the late 70's, you treated me so well. I am very happy that I was able to come into your home to have my children meet you. You will always be a special person to me. Thank you for all you did.

My sincere condolences to the entire Flaman Family. We had a great ride at Northeastern from 78-86 and those memories will live with me forever, especially watching the films of Ferny and I jumping up and down hugging each other after winning the 1980 Beanpot. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to Coach at NU !
