Florence I. Stankiewicz

Florence I. Stankiewicz, 84, of Jefferson Township, passed away Wednesday, April 20, while in the company of family members, at Concordia Lutheran Ministries, in Cabot. Florence was born in Natrona Heights on July 14, 1931, a daughter of the late Twila (Engle) and Oden Patterson. Florence grew up in Freeport and attended Freeport High School. She had worked for Alcoa in New Kensington until they closed and was transferred to their Oakland, Calif. branch. She married her husband, Frank, and moved to Hercules, Calif. She went back to school to be a paralegal at St. Mary's College in Moraga, Calif. She also worked in the Administrative Branch of the U.S. government for 25 years. She later obtained her Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the California University of Pennsylvania. She was a past member of Freeport United Methodist Church in Freeport. Florence enjoyed, knitting, crocheting, crossword puzzles and reading on her kindle. She is survived by her daughter, Jean (Dougherty) Hartwig, of Fawn Township; six grandchildren, Tammy (Kevin Stadler) Hartwig, Melanie (Timothy) Bollinger, Christine (Brian) Thomas, Colleen (Dougherty) Burt, Patrick (Katya) Dougherty and Timothy Dougherty. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Stankiewicz, who passed in 2005; her son, C. Gordon Dougherty, who passed in 1989; brother, Robert Nelson Patterson; and sister, Iva Jean Smith.
Family and friends will be received from 1 until services at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 23, in the REDMOND FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 High St., Freeport. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Roger Nuerge officiating.
