Floyd Baturin

Floyd Morley Baturin passed away at the age of 93 on January 10, 2022, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on October 21,1928 to the late Ruth M. (Salkin) and Moses S. Baturin. Floyd had a wonderful family life in Harrisburg, growing up with his late sister, Hannajean (Baturin) Hecht, his extended family members and friends. During his childhood, he enjoyed searching for and collecting Native American Arrowheads from the Susquehanna Valley with his father and had accumulated an extensive arrowhead collection. After graduating William Penn High School, Floyd enlisted in the United States Marine Corps; the second-best decision he made after marrying his wife, Kersti R. Neuman. He was stationed at The United States Marine Barracks in Washington D.C. at 8th & I Streets where he marched in the Friday Evening Sunset Parades and in the Presidential Inaugural Parade for President Eisenhower. After proudly and dutifully serving his country in the Marine Corps and during the Korean War, Floyd remained always faithful to the Corps and active in Veterans Affairs and related veteran charities and causes for the remainder of his life. Floyd graduated from Lebanon Valley College and from Dickinson School of Law. After graduating law school, Floyd had the privilege of joining his father's firm and continued to practice law for over 60 years with Baturin & Baturin Law Offices alongside his father and three of his children. During his career, in the 1960s, Floyd was legal counsel, Vice-President and director of the Harrisburg Capitols, the city's first semi-professional football team. Floyd was very proud of his family law firm which has worked with multiple generations of clients for over 100 years. Devoted to the practice of law, Floyd represented his clients with skill, knowledge, and compassion. While representing his client, SAAB Corporation, Floyd worked out of SAAB's offices on Park Avenue in New York City. It was during one of his work trips to Sweden for SAAB when Floyd met the love of his life, Kersti Renee Neuman, and they were married three months later on August 17, 1965. They were married for 56 years and have four children – Monica (Kevin) Baturin-Lutkins, Madelaine (Jason) Baturin-Weinstock, Mia (Henry) Baturin, and Harry (Rachael) Baturin. He was an active, engaged, and influential grandfather to many grandchildren. During his lifetime, Floyd was an active member and held leadership positions in numerous associations and organizations including the Dauphin County Bar Association, Pennsylvania Bar Association, War Veterans' Councils, and American Legion, as well as often providing pro bono services. An avid reader and writer, Floyd was a CLE panelist, published several articles in the Pennsylvania Lawyer Magazine, and wrote several Letters to the Editor Section of the Patriot News which generated a fan base. Floyd received many honors for his charitable work including an Official Citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in recognition of his many positions he held in veterans' organizations. Ever the erudite man, Floyd enjoyed discussing politics, history, and geography, but also always welcomed friends to have a good "old-fashioned conversation". Known for his penchant for wearing neckties, Floyd wore the appropriate tie for any occasion. He appreciated a good firm handshake as well. Floyd was a lifetime active member of Ohev Sholom Temple. Floyd's 93-year life brought forth an endless number of good deeds, good humor, and continual inspiration to his family and friends. Floyd will be deeply missed by all who met and knew him and his memory will always be a blessing. Professional Services are entrusted to Hetrick-Bitner Funeral Home, Harrisburg, PA.
