Floyd Blackwell Obituary
He was married to his devoted wife of 59 years, Suzanne Strong Blackwell. From that union, they are the proud parents of daughter, Patricia Annette Watts; granddaughter, Tashonia LaShae Blackwell and her husband, Ronney Revis; and two great grandchildren, Phoenix and Paxton. He is survived by his brother, Robert Blackwell (Florence) of Suffolk, VA.
To prepare himself for the Ministry, he attended the Virginia Seminary and College in Lynchburg, Virginia where he served on the Board of Trustees. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Masters of Divinity Degree. Later in life, he was bestowed an honorary Doctorate of Divinity Degree.
In 1967, he accepted the call to serve as Pastor of St. Matthew Baptist Church in Clover, Virginia. In 1968, he also accepted the call to serve as Pastor of the White Oak Grove Baptist Church in Sutherlin, Virginia.
For 35 years, Rev. Blackwell successfully pastored Miracle Temple Baptist Church formerly known as Second Baptist Church in Newport News, VA. We thank God for him because of his many accomplishments as Pastor, Leader, Teacher, Friend and because of the Love he had for everyone's salvation. However, because of failing health and at God's command in 2011, Rev. Blackwell relinquished his pastoral privileges.

The Horse Drawn Carriage Procession will leave Miracle Temple Baptist Church at 11 am and arrive at Gethsamane Baptist Church to begin the ceremony on Saturday, November 9, 2019.

You taught me so much, helped me so much, loved me so much, validated me when it was needed, supported the call upon my life, and because of you I can be strong & walk proud. You will always be loved. Your voice still rings in my ears, the wisdom you spoke with still guides me even today. I thank you for walking with me, talking with me, showing me how to keep God 1st, & guiding me with an understanding spirit. Sacrifice is a must & always preserve God's glory for the betterment of the Kingdom. Remove self, pride & all things that are not like Jesus. Follow the path that is lit, & I'll remember that the Lord my God forgives when we ask & repent. I love you, for there is none, no not 1 man in my life whom was greater, stronger, and more stout than a father like you. I have seen with mine own eyes that I was one of many sons that you have touched & lead throughout your faith walk. Your fad faithful Christian journey, & I thank God for your life. I pray for peace in your transition, & I know that Love (GOD) has you resting in HIS arms. I love you Dad, Pastor, Doctor, Man of God, & I always will. Family, please accept my sincere condolences. Dr. Blackwell was a wonderful, people oriented servant of God. At pivotal points in my life he was there. For example, he was my deacon when we were members of St. John Baptist Church in New York. Years later he preached for my installation as pastor of Fountain Baptist Church, Hampton, VA. I shall never forget his contagious smile and many acts of kindness to our family. Rest in Heaven dear friend.

To the Blackwell Family.
I have always considered him to be my Pastor even though I left the area. Pastor and I have had many debates and discussions, the last one was about two years ago and I did miss the debates and I always will. I was 21 when he became my Pastor, he's been my Pastor and friend for over forty three years. Rest In Peace my Home Pastor Blackwell.
Your race is over, you have finished your course, you have endured, the race is not given to the swift or the strong but to the one who endured to the end.
I will never forget you. About forty years ago during a revival, one of the guest ministers introduced you and he coined this phrase, he can kick up dust on a muddy road,. So Pastor, kick up dust on a muddy road in heaven. Rest In Peace.

To the Blackwell a Family,
It has been my honor to sit under Pastor Blackwell for many years. I have enjoyed learning and growing under his leadership. We have had many controversial discussions, our last discussion was roughly two years ago when we differed in our opinion on how and what way Jesus was received by his brothers before he was 13 yoa. I will miss my many debates with him. When I speak about my home I always inform people that my home Pastor is Pastor Blackwell.
Mrs Blackwell, I will continue to keep you and your family in my prayers. This is what the race was about, when a loved one runs through the ribbon and wins the race because he endured to the end, the race was not given to the swift or the strong but to the one who endured to the end. Rev. Floyd Blackwell was magnificent and awesome!! He was a great man and a wonderful human being. Rev. Blackwell was the mentor pastor, friend, and spiritual advisor to my husband, and our dad, Rev. Sylvester Kent Diggs.
Rev. Blackwell was an earth Angel that stood with us and was by our sides as my husband, our father, made his transition nine years ago.
Rev. Blackwell had this candid ability to see and meet you precisely where you were. An excellent teacher, a prophetic minister, a good soul, and an incredible leader, we shall miss you!! We wish your soul peace as it journeys to new adventures.
You and my husband, and our dad, can hang out in heavens Captain Ds now and catch up!!
