Floyd Dennis Hartman

Floyd Dennis Hartman, age 61 of Sturgis, Michigan went to join his Lord and Savior Thursday evening, November 27, 2014 at the Sturgis Hospital Emergency Room surrounded by his loving family. He became the son of Freeman and Berdina (Troyer) Hartman in 1959 at the age of 6. He was born January 3, 1953 to Lonnie and Mary Anne (Haffner) Williams in West Virginia. His birth name was Stephen Howard Williams. Floyd resided in Sturgis since 1970. His early life was spent in LaGrange, County, Indiana. He attended Lakeland School Corp. in LaGrange, Bethany Christian School and graduated from high school in Fort Wayne, Indiana. On January 4, 2003 he married Nancy Weitting in Sturgis. Floyd was a talented welder by trade. More importantly to him he was a dedicated and loving husband and father. He truly cherished happy family times. Floyd always tried his best to see that those around him were taken care of. The families will remember how Floyd always made sure everyone else in the house was to get their food before him. He loved to travel. Some of his favorite trips included Sault St. Marie where he and Nancy enjoyed a dinner cruise through the locks, Nashville, Tennessee where the stars did their footwork to get noticed, Cody Wyoming to take in the Little Big Horn and Buffalo Bill attractions and San Antonio, Texas to experience the Alamo. In 2007 he and Nancy walked the Mackinac Bridge. He also enjoyed canoeing, kayaking, camping, flying and competitive archery finishing 3rd in a state competition. He was a member of Sturgis Grange #1490 and attended the Sturgis Baptist Church. Many will miss his stories including Daniel Boone and how he grew up with him. Floyd was very predictable and believed in always taking the same route home. He had a special gift with animals especially dogs and horses. They seemed to really understand one another and became immediate friends. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife Nancy; two daughters: Tina Sue (Billy) Snedeker and Sebrina Dee Willis; two sons: Tony Lee (Christina) Hartman and Timothy Dennis ( Bobbie) Hartman; six grandchildren; two step-daughters: Rachel Leis and Bethany (Brandon) Capley; two step-sons: David Leis and Daniel Leis; 10 step-grandchildren; three sisters: Linda (Larry) Logar, Elaine (Fred) Thorpe and Donna Oswalt; three brothers: Brad (Karen) Teeters, Charles Hartman/Marilyn, Bert (Alecia) Hartman and Loren (Joann) Hartman and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331. Funeral services celebrating the life of Floyd Dennis Hartman will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Greg Long of the Sturgis Baptist Church will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
