Floyd Oakman Obituary

Floyd E. Oakman, 87, passed away Friday, February 3, 2017. He was born in Jerome, PA, on November 25, 1929. He was the son of the late James and Minnie Oakman, who unfortunately he lost at the young age of 5. Despite tragedy, he prevailed and was accepted in to Milton Hershey Industrial School of Boys and graduated in 1948. Floyd then joined the Army where he served in the Korean War. Floyd worked as a carpenter prior to working for B.F. Goodrich in 1966 where he worked for 28 years. He was a member of Trinity Church of the Nazarene, and Milton Hershey School Alumni Association. Floyd volunteered at the VA hospital for 19 years, and accomplished being named the volunteer of the year for the state of Indiana. He was also a Steelers and Indiana Basketball Fan, and enjoyed carpentry, running, but most of all gardening, taking great pride in his yard, and spending time with his grandchildren. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Bernice Lorraine Oakman; children; Jo (Gus) Rohleder, Doug Oakman, Jeff Oakman, Cathy (Steve) Nancarrow; 7 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. Floyd was preceded in death by brothers, Paul Oakman, Don Baer, Ray Oakman, Glen Oakman, and Leo Oakman; sister, Dorie Drum; and daughter-in-law, Laura Oakman. Funeral service is 10:00 am, February 8, 2017 at Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 4150 Stellhorn Road with Rev. Terry Habegger officiating, and calling 1 hour prior. Visitation at D. O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home 1140 Lake Ave February 7, 2017, 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Burial in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
