Poirier, Floyd aka "Flopo" July 7, 1934 - December 6, 2014

The world is a less entertaining place today.

Flopo never had an incident that didn't come with a great story. Whether it was trying to launch his boat down the ramp and having his car follow into the water because he forgot to set the parking brake, or carefully removing his fence so he could cut down a 60 foot tree, only to have it land on the roof of his house or cleaning his garage floor by hosing down the electrical panel and having an arc of electricity jump into the water around his feet, blowing all the circuits in the house - he always came out of every situation with a goofy grin and an "oops"!

He was our own Mr. Magoo - the luckiest man in the world! But we who knew and loved him were the fortunate ones. He was the hardest working, most devoted family man ever. He lived by the saying "the Poiriers stick together like s**t on a shoe". Okay, it wasn't eloquent but it was Flopo!

He was born in Cold Lake, Alberta which made him appreciate the special comforts that came later in life - indoor plumbing and forced air heating. He took great pleasure in both. He also loved to travel and got to do many amazing things: from riding bullet trains in Japan to a deep sea sub in Cayman, touring the salt mines of Poland and the brothels of Pompeii and practising his French in both Paris and Cuba.

As we say goodbye to Flopo we would like to think of him as going off on one last road trip, driving down the I5 to California with the stairs on his 5th wheel dragging along the highway, sparks flying everywhere!

Flopo is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jo, daughter Tamara (Douglas), sons Jerry (Sandra) and Dale (Colleen) and grandchildren Brandon, Sydney, Joel and Sam. Dad would want us to specially note the wonderful help Brandon provided this last while.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Parkinson's Society or Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.

A casual Celebration of an Awesome Life will be held Saturday, December 13th at the home in which he took such pride. Please come by between 1 - 4 pm at 13144 - 62 A Avenue in Surrey and share your own Flopo story!
