Frances Barker Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 22, 2024.
Frances (Tryon) Barker, aged 93, passed away peacefully at her home in Glastonbury, Connecticut, on November 19, 2024. Born on February 25, 1931, Frances was a lifelong resident of Glastonbury and a proud graduate of Glastonbury High School, class of 1949.

Frances was a loving mother, caring friend, and loyal sister to her siblings. She was a woman of diverse interests and talents. She was passionate about crocheting, sewing, and genealogy, having traced her family's lineage back to the 1600s. Her love for word games was well-known, and she excelled at Scrabble, Boggle, and Wordle, continuing to play (and win) until just two days before her passing.

She was the beloved daughter of the late Hilda (McClean) and Raymond Tryon of South Glastonbury. Frances was predeceased by her three brothers, Warren, George, and Donnie, and her three sisters, Shirley, Dot, and Helen.

Frances leaves behind a loving family, including her four children: Laurie and her husband Steve Smaglis of Mansfield, Trudy and her husband Gary Wnek of East Haddam, Connie and her husband Gary DeCrescenzo of Glastonbury, and her son Leonard F. Barker of Glastonbury. She is also survived by six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and her sister-in-law, Diane Tryon.

A memorial service to honor Frances's life will be held on Saturday, December 14, at 2:00 PM at the Wethersfield Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, located at 165 Elm Street, Wethersfield, CT.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, Inc. / Disaster Relief Fund or a charity of your choice. Frances will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Being an 'in-law', I didn't have much contact with Aunt Fran, but did enjoy chatting at a family reunion + had a very nice conversation with her at the end of September this year. I'm sorry for your loss. The family will be in my prayers.
