Frances Deatrick Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 21, 2025.
Frances Elizabeth Deatrick (Hylla), age 75, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2025, in Columbia, South Carolina. Born on February 11, 1950, in Dover, Tennessee, Frances lived a life marked by faith, kindness, and a deep love for her family and community.

Frances was the cherished daughter of Lois and Frank Hylla, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by her brother T.O. Boyd. Her brother Allen Boyd as well as her extended family remain among those who remember her fondly. She was raised in Topeka, KS and graduated Hayden High School.

A devoted Catholic throughout her life, Frances found strength and purpose in her faith. She served actively within her church community as a server and brought that same spirit of service to other areas of her life. She was a Girl Scout leader and a great mother who guided young minds with patience and encouragement.

Frances had a beautiful singing voice that uplifted those around her and reflected the joy she carried in her heart. Her positive outlook on life was contagious-she approached each day with gratitude and grace. A voracious reader, she found joy in books and the worlds they opened up to her. She also had a special fondness for nature's small wonders like her cats and the squirrels and birds outside her window-and delighted in watching them.

Travel was a passion that enriched Frances' life. She cruised and traveled by train when she had the chance. She moved to Columbia, SC in 2002 and she loved going to the beach. She also loved good Mexican food and Chinese food. Whether near or far, she embraced new places and experiences with curiosity and appreciation.

She is lovingly remembered by her three daughters: Elizabeth Ann Miles, Angela Kaye Hensley, and Michelle Raye Cannon; as well as by her grandchildren Benjamin Hensley and Miranda Cannon. Her legacy lives on through them and through all who were touched by her warmth and gracious personality.

May the memory of Frances Elizabeth Deatrick bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.

The family will have a private interment. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a local food bank or animal shelter.
