Frances P (nee Mercer) Foster 1915-2015 Dr. Frances Perot (Mercer) FOSTER

Frances passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 24th, 2015, at the amazing age of 99, predeceased by her loving husband, Carey Foster, and her son, Bill Foster.

"Frannie", as she was affectionately known by so many, was born September 18, 1915 in Smith's Parish, Bermuda, to the late Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Mercer. Frannie left Bermuda in 1933 to attend McGill University, where she met Carey and fell in love with both him and the city of Montreal. She then went on to Boston, MA where she earned her Teacher's Degree.

Upon her return to Montreal in 1937, Frannie became a Grade 3 and 4 teacher, the beginning of a devoted and rewarding 40 year career at St. George's School, from which Frances retired in 1977 as Vice Principal; Director of the Elementary School. Upon her retirement, Frances was awarded an Honourary Doctorate of Laws from Concordia University, recognizing her many contributions in the field of Education. This was an unexpected and very proud moment in her life. Children were her passion, and Frances felt privileged to have helped so many.

Frances is survived by her daughter, Susan Danko, her grandchildren Shawn (Lana) of Memphis, TN; Sheri (Scott) of Vancouver, BC; and her great-grand-daughter Alexa, of Montreal, QC. A very caring, loving, and giving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt; Frances loved us all and she will be greatly missed.

There will be a private burial ceremony this spring, where Mum will join her husband and son in Mount Royal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers of flowers, donations may be made in her name to St. George's School, Montreal - www.stgeorges.qc.ca

Granny thanks for everything you did for me I would never be where I am today if it were not for your guidance and keeping me pointed in the right direction. You opened up some great doors for me giving me opportunities that I am eternally grateful for.

From making you breakfast in bed, to photography trips to Mt. Royal, lemon meringue pie, late night cribbage games, roast beef sandwiches & grape soda from Cantor's having lunch at St Georges in the summer time, learning to ride my bike in the driveway, getting my fingers caught in the old ringer washer, the basement apartment during university and six egg breakfasts after football practice, making pancakes and seeing how high we could stack them....so many great memories

I miss you dearly,
Shawn

Mrs. Foster was my grade four teacher back in 1961.
As a nine year old, she was the BEST TEACHER in the whole school!!
Friday afternoon craft times was fun with her also. Knitting lessons, I think.
Over the years I have thought of her and wondered how she was doing.
RIP Mrs. Foster, you have lived a full life. 99 years, Amazing!!
