Frances Foster Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 29, 2024.
Frances Kay Foster of Kapa'a, Kaua'i, passed away in Lihu'e on March 12, 2024, at the age of 80. Fran was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on June 19, 1943, and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. After graduating from Arlington Heights High School, she earned her undergraduate degree at Texas State University (formerly Southwest Texas State University) and her Master's degree at Texas Christian University. She taught high school English at South Grand Prairie High School and in 1991 moved to Kaua'i to be a teacher and then a guidance counselor at Kapa'a High School.

Fran told people that she moved to Hawaii for the flowers. She loved to take care of her collection of orchids on her lanai. Her family enjoyed visiting her and she loved how much they enjoyed the beauty of the island.

Fran is preceded in passing by her parents Travis and Nancy Foster, and her brother Travis Vincent Foster. She is survived by her daughters Amy (Bobby) Newberry of Liberty, Missouri; Meredith Foster of Rockport, Texas; her sister Judy Foster of Carrollton, Texas; her sister-in-law Susan Cannon of Corrales, New Mexico; her grandchildren Clay (Hannah) Newberry of Blue Springs, Missouri; Brenna Newberry of Honolulu, Hawai'i; and her nieces Lindsey Richardson (Todd Slavinsky) of Carrollton, Texas, and Kelsey (Paul) Jendrzey of Lubbock, Texas.

Kaua'i Memorial Gardens assisted the family with arrangements.

Fran was a dear friend and neighbor for a few years and she really touched my heart. My husband and I had to move back to the mainland for medical reasons. Fran and I stayed in touch. We will never forget you Fran. So giving, so thoughtfully. So special. Love from Dana and Max Trapp

Fran was a steady source of counsel and support for our family for decades. She had a tremondous memory for anything related to people and animals, which served us well in the ongoing conversations, sometimes months apart. It is not quite real for me that she has left.
