FRANCES GREEN
EAST ALTON — Frances Ann Green, 84, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at her residence following a short, courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Alton on March 26, 1931, she was the daughter of Oliver Wendell and Frances Leola (Fox) Vernor.
A lifelong resident of Wood River, she graduated from East Alton Wood River High School in 1948. She worked for the P.N. Hirsch Department Store in East Alton until her retirement in 1978. She was a member of the 1st Christian Church in Wood River, a big St. Louis Cardinal fan, and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
On Feb. 14, 1979, in East Alton, she married Merle E. Green. He died Jan. 28, 1998.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dianne (Peck) and Gene Blasa of Wood River; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Donna (Struberg) Peck; six grandchildren, Jeff (Crystal) Blasa of Wood River, Amy (Steven) Bryant of Bethalto, Tim (Natalie) Blasa of Alton, Richy Peck of Cottage Hills, Matthew (Katie) Peck of Hartford, John Peck (Kaitlin Chamness) of Wood River; 11 great-grandchildren, Alexis and Jessica Blasa, Matthew McCulley, Mason and Sydney Bryant, Grayson and Anderson Blasa, Hailey, Brianna, Emily and Bethany Peck; a special niece, Kay Cowan Owens of East Alton; three sisters-in-law, Leila Mae Vernor of Seaside, Ore., Lois Eastman of Texas, Sarah Green of Missouri; two step granddaughters, Tammy (Joe) Lukitsch of St. Charles, Mo., Tracy (Bob) Wallach of Villa Ridge, Mo., and their children, Taylor, Tanner, Trey, Bailey and Brennan; brother-in-law, Harold Green of Florida; several nieces and nephews.
Preceding in death were her parents; husband; three brothers, Oliver and Richard "Dick" Vernor, and one in infancy; sister, Geraldine; a brother-in-law, Joe Cowan; and a stepdaughter, Sammie Blocker.
Visitation will be from 9 until service time at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 11, 2015, at the 1st Christian Church in Wood River. Rev. Bob Tracey will officiate.
Burial will follow in Upper Alton Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the 1st Christian Church in Wood River.
Marks Mortuary in Wood River is in charge of arrangements.
