Frances H. Harden
Pickens, SC
Frances Hoffman Harden, 94, of Hollingsworth Drive and wife of the late Dr. John Maxwell Harden, M.D., passed away Monday, October 13, 2014, surrounded by her family.
Born in Charleston, SC, she was the daughter of the late Howard Cleveland Hoffman and Rubye Crim Hoffman.
Mrs. Harden was a graduate of Roper School of Nursing in Charleston where she met her husband studying at the Medical College of SC (now MUSC). She retired after many years as a Registered Nurse having worked for her husband for over 20 years. She was devoted to him during their fifty-one years of marriage. She taught the Candy Stripers at Cannon Memorial Hospital, was a past President of the Pickens County Medical Auxiliary and was a member of Pickens Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed spending time gardening in her yard filled with beautiful azaleas and caring for and viewing her outdoor birds, but not as much as she loved being with her family.
Surviving are her children, John Maxwell “Rocky” Harden, Jr. (June), Margaret “Peggy” Anthony (Ricky), Howard H. Harden (Diane) and Dixon E. Harden (Donna) all of Pickens; nine grandchildren, Frankie Abercrombie Broom (Chris), John Abercrombie (Jessica), Shannon Harden O’Boyle (Henry), Holly Harden, John Maxwell Harden, III, Erikka Anthony Chapman (Terry Lee), Nikki Anthony Hope (Riley), Drew Harden and Dawson Harden; and fifteen great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Ann Abercrombie Wolfe; and a granddaughter, Melissa Diane Harden.
The family would like to express appreciation to the staff of both Manna Health and Rehab and Ark Hospice for the excellent care given to Mrs. Harden.
A service to celebrate Mrs. Harden’s life will be held on Friday October 17, 2014 at 11:30 AM at Pickens Presbyterian Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Dillard Funeral Home.
