Frances Higgins Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 2, 2011.
Frances (Connie) Walker Higgins, 70, of South Charleston, WV, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2011. She was, in all regards, a truly superb wife and mother, and will be continually and deeply missed. Wherever she went, she made instant and lifelong friends, and served as a source of encouragement for everyone who knew her. Through humor, love, determination, and an intensely positive outlook, Connie was known as a particularly lovely personality who left lasting marks on the hearts of all who knew her, and made great efforts to live each day to its greatest potential. She is preceded in death by her mother Lillian Davis Walker, her father Isaac Lewis Walker, her sister Rebecca Walker Lord, and her brother Isaac (Butch) Walker, Jr., all of Charleston, WV. She is survived by: husband Owen S. Higgins of South Charleston, WV; son Shane Higgins of Charleston, WV, daughter-in-law Barbara Navarini Higgins, grandsons Alex and Jacob Higgins; daughter Suzanne Higgins Nicewonder of Salem, VA, son-in-law Steve Nicewonder, grandsons Bryan, Derek, and Scotty Nicewonder; son Dr. Henry Higgins of Abilene, TX, daughter-in-law Karen Casto Higgins, grandsons Isaac, Ian, and Adam Higgins, and granddaughter Lauren Higgins; brother Tommy Walker of South Charleston, WV; and sister Mary (Rita) Walker Gandee, of South Charleston, WV. More than 24 years ago, Connie suffered a debilitating injury which confined her to a wheelchair. Since that time, a large extended family of caregivers, home healthcare providers, attendants, and dear friends have provided assistance and inspiration for Connie; to these individuals her family extends great appreciation and gratitude for their many years of service, love, and friendship. Connie’s family wishes to extend special appreciation and recognition to the very fine medical practice at Dunbar Medical, who over the years have provided her with exceptional care and to whom we attribute a high quality of life. Connie was a member of the South Charleston Church of Christ, and her family offers many thanks to this congregation and its members, as well as to members of other churches, who over the years have prayed diligently for her and with her, and who have helped buoy her faith. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the Snodgrass Funeral Home in South Charleston, Friday evening (03/04/11) from 7 to 9 PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday (03/05/11) at 11 AM at the Snodgrass Funeral Home, followed by burial services at Sunset Memorial Park.
