Frances Sinon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 24, 2024.
Frances M. Sinon, affectionately known as Chickie, passed away on July 22, 2024, in Belle Harbor, NY, at the age of 88. Born on March 4, 1936, in Brooklyn, NY, she was a lifelong New Yorker and a loyal Yankees fan. Her greatest joy in life was raising her five children with strong Christian values, teaching them kindness, integrity and faith. She dedicated many years to education as a secretary at St. Ann's School in the Bronx and later as a secretary to the Headmaster at Fordham Preparatory High School.

While living in the Bronx, Frances was a member of St. Brendan's Parish, where all five of her children attended school. She dedicated many hours volunteering at the school's annual Bazaars and Night at the Races events. She was always in attendance at her children's CYO Basketball and Little League games. She very much enjoyed being an active member of this community.

Frances was a kind-hearted, loving, and supportive individual with a positive outlook and a deep faith. She was very involved in her St. Francis De Sales community, participating in weekly prayer group meetings and as a member of the Sea Breeze Golden Age Club. At St. Ann's School, Frances directed two musical productions, Yankee Doodle Dandy and Tom Sawyer. These productions included both students and parents. Her hobbies included bus trips to Atlantic City, attending various dinner theaters, and watching Hallmark Christmas movies throughout the year.

As a child Frances attended Incarnation School in Washington Heights and then Aquinas High School in the Bronx. After raising her family of five children, Frances continued to work at Fordham Preparatory School and also began night classes at Fordham University. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Her family was extremely proud of all of her accomplishments.

She worshipped at St. Francis de Sales in Belle Harbor, NY, where she was a cherished member of the congregation and also a Eucharistic Minister. Frances has always had strong ties to the Rockaways. It was a frequent summer destination for the entire family while living in Washington Heights and the Bronx. The 2-hour ride on the subway was a real adventure for all.

Frances is survived by her sister Lucille (Penny) King, children Marie and John McHale, Jean Anne Valance and Gene Martone, Rosemary and Patrick Quirke, John and Gina Sinon, and Martin and Joanne Sinon. She was a proud grandmother to Cavan Valance and Lacy Stace, Derek Valance, Kelsea Valance and Jacob Koenig, Owen and Danielle Valance, Kiera Quirke, Patrick Quirke and Brenna Farley, Samantha Sinon, Skylar Sinon, and Matteo Sinon. She welcomed her first great-grandchild Archer Valance this past March. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews. Frances was preceded in death by her beloved husband Martin P. Sinon, her parents Rose (née Monte) and Vincent Simeti, brothers-in-law Denis Synon and James King, son-in-law Daniel Valance and her niece Anne Elizabeth King.

"My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."
(Psalm 73:26)

Visitation will be held at Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home in Rockaway, NY, on Monday, July 29th, from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A service will follow on Tuesday, July 30th, at 10:00 am at Fordham University Church, Rose Hill Campus, 2691 Southern Boulevard, Bronx NY

Growing up in Washington Height, NYC, in the 1950's and early 1960's, and seeing and spending time with my late Aunt Rose and my late Uncle Vincent's two wonderful daughters, "Chickie & Penny "; which was always a happy and joyful experience for this 'then very energetic and tenacious young boy.' Chickie's exuberant smile and gleeful persona were legendary and remained so for her entire lifespan. Her entire life was dedicated to bringing happiness to all those fortunate and blessed to have known her. To that effect, she highly succeeded. May God grant you, cousin Chickie, your justly earned eternal reward. You are much loved. Cousin Jeanette Brenan Stone of Broomfield Colorado sends her love and prayers to all, as well. Glod Bless,

Chickie´s smile made me feel welcomed and loved. I enjoyed talking to her and respected her love of religion. She would send me caring cards with special notes. I will miss them but knowing she is not suffering and is with Nanna and the family is comforting.
The comfort and love she received while home from her family made her journey easier.
