I often think of Grandpa as I sit in class with these students, trying to carry on his legacy. I am attaching some words I sent the family after his passing:
As the students start slowly returning to campus over these next few days, I am trying to emulate and honor the legacy that his kindness, empathy, and care has made-not only in my life-but in the countless humans lucky enough to pass through his classroom. To be shown such dedication service others embodied in each of my family members, as the norm not the exception, is a blessing beyond measure. It is the true inheritance behind the names Suslenko, Petroff, Cormier, Henrick and it resides in my bones as a constant reminder of who I am-proud and humbled by the remarkable example of those who came before me.

Mr. Henrick was one best men I ever knew, so I learned what being a good father was from him, and he was the best of fathers. Thank you, Mr. Henrick. I know that God holds you now. John

I am eternally grateful for having been blessed with two amazing parents Frank Henrick and Barbara (Petroff) Henrick. Imperfect, as we all are, but perfect in the ways that mattered.
They both had an unfaltering belief in God and Jesus and lived their lives in his image. Compassionate, giving, loving. They shared "the message" with kids, adults and those in prison. Having a house of five children, they graciously, welcomed others into their home, to help them on their journey. Dad always volunteering, the little free time he had, Mom making the house a home with a beautiful smile and big hug to greet you.
Dad taught high school for 38 years. A job that found him. I remember graduated students visiting our house in Monroe. It blew me away that a teacher could have that kind of relationship with, and impact on his students. I knew then he had found his calling.
Undoubtedly, the gates were held wide open for Frank & Bobbie, Mom greeting Dad to begin his next journey.
Francis C. Henrick, I will miss you, I love you and may God bless you
Proudly, your son

Cheryl, I'm so sorry for you and your family's loss of your dad. I still remember meeting you and your dad the summer you moved to Westport. You were in a bicycle accident at the end of my road. The police called your dad, and he came running to be there for you. He was so grateful that I stayed with you until he got there. Such a good man. . May he rest in peace.

I have such fond memories of my Uncle Fran. Among them were visits to the "big house" in Westport. As a kid , I always looked forward to the special cereal cabinet filled with sugar cereals (Mom only bought us Cheerios and Rice Krispies), Stew Leonard's chocolate milk and fudgsicles and family dinner. I remember one Easter when he bought us giant chocolate roosters in our Easter baskets. I never felt so lucky!! I always felt so safe and loved there. My mom was his baby sister and they had a special bond throughout their life. I find comfort in knowing she was waiting to greet him when he journeyed Home. He was a special man and I feel blessed to have had him in my life. I had a conversation with him a short while after he shared his Alzheimer's diagnosis. He told me it was not something he would have chosen but he would do his best to walk the journey with courage, love and acceptance. His Faith in God was strong and he said he knew God would be walking with him each step of the way.. A true testament to who Uncle Fran was. I know he will be loving my mom in Heaven until I can be with her again some day. Thank you God for this wonderful human being we were all so fortunate to know and love and be loved by in return.
