Funeral services celebrating the life of Francis M. Jumer will be held Friday, February 20, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe. Officiating will be Fr. Tony Stubeda and Fr. Paul Fruth (family friend.) Visitation will be at the church prior to the funeral, beginning at 10:00 AM.

Francis M. Jumer was born October 3, 1915 in Glencoe, Minnesota, the son of Max and Mary Ann (Whalen) Jumer. On August 27, 1945, Francis was united in marriage with Margaret A. Williams at the Cathedral of St. Paul, in St. Paul, Minnesota. During their 63 years of marriage, Francis and Margaret were blessed with one daughter, one son, six grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Francis graduated from Glencoe High School in 1933, attended the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, and then began his working career at the Glencoe Power Plant. Francis served in the United States Army Air Corps as a B-17 Navigator/Bombardier, flying combat missions from England for two years during World War II.

After he was honorably discharged from the service in December, 1945, Francis began working with the Green Giant Company, serving as Plant Manager in Glencoe and Blue Earth, Minnesota. He then worked for a casualty insurance company, prior to beginning a career spanning more than 20 years at the Sperry-Rand Univac Defense Systems Division as Manager of Safety and Health, where he was active with the National Safety Council. Following his retirement in 1978, Francis and Margaret moved to their lake home in Crosslake, Minnnesota where they resided until moving to Crest Hill, Illinois in 2003. During their retirement years, they traveled often and spent many winters at various southern locations, including Arizona, Texas, Alabama and Florida.

Francis was active in the Glencoe and Crosslake communities. He served at St. George Catholic Church in Glencoe and The Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Crosslake, as usher, lector, commentator, Eucharistic Minister, Third and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. In the Crosslake area, he was on a committee of the Department of Natural Resources, dedicated to preserving the environmental quality of Minnesota lakes. A founding member of the Glencoe Golf Club, he continued to play well into his retirement years. He was an avid sports fan, who enjoyed following his favorite football, basketball and baseball teams throughout his life. He loved cars, boats, hunting and fishing and particularly enjoyed taking his children and grandchildren on boat rides and water skiing. He enjoyed an active social life with his many friends and acquaintances and was known for his outgoing and captivating personality. He was a devoted family man, who always put the needs of his family first.

On Thursday, February 12, 2009, Francis peacefully entered his eternal rest at Westbury Care Center, Lisle, Illinois at the age of 93 years, 4 months and 9 days. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Eleanor Mitchell and Eileen Jumer.

Francis is survived by his wife Margaret of Crest Hill, IL; daughter Pat Larson (husband:Rich) of Naperville, IL; son Tom Jumer (wife: Linda) of Centerville, OH; grandchildren Sara, Jennifer, Kristen, Patrick, Brian and Erika; great-grandchildren Camden, Riley, Mason, Kylie, McKenna and Gabriella plus many other relatives and friends.
