JUREWICZ REV. FRANCIS Z.
On Mon., April 16, 2012, age 82, of Wall, Reverend Francis Zenon Jurewicz, born on Dec. 22, 1929 in the Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh to the late Josephine (Chacilowski) and Roman Jurewicz. He attended Holy Family Grade School and graduated from Schenley High School in 1948. He studied at Duquesne University before entering St. Vincent Seminary, where he earned a bachelor's degree. He was ordained May 30, 1959 and celebrated his first solemn High Mass on May 31, 1959 (the Feast of Corpus Christi) at Holy Family Church in Lawrenceville. His assignments included parochial vicor at St. Mary of Assumption in Glenshaw from 1959 to 1965, St. Ignatius de Loyola in Carnegie from 1965 to 1967, St. Stanislaus in Ambridge in 1967 and Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Bellevue from 1967 to 1971. In Nov. of 1971 he received his first pastoral assignment to St. Leocadia Church in Wilmerding. The construction of a new rectory, the purchase and installation of a three-rank Moeller Pipe Organ and the placing of the bell tower were three very significant accomplishments under his leadership. In 1994 he was named the first Pastor of the newly organized St. Agnes Parish in Richeyville/Daiseytown. Shortly after arriving, the planning of a new church began and before its dedication, in May 2003, the Moeller Pipe Organ from St. Leocadia Church was purchased and installed in the new Church. In addition to his pastoral assignments, he served as Chaplin to the Catholic Daughters of America Court #1909. In 2002 he received the Good Shepherd Award from the Pittsburgh Serra Club. He retired from the Diocese of Pittsburgh in 2005 and in June of 2006 he began duties as Chaplin at the John Kane Regional Center in McKeesport. Fr. Fran is survived by his sister-in-Iaw, Mary Rees of Fox Chapel; nieces and nephews, Harry (Eleanor) Loucks of Ohio, Mary (Larry) Berman of Cheswick, Raymond (Diane) Jurewicz of Churchill, Peggy (Joe) Santelli of O'Hara Twp., Nina Jurewicz of Australia, Janice (Bill) Roach of South Hills, and Jackie Posa of South Hills; dear friend of Annette Scarpino of Wall and many great and great-great-nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John Jurewicz, Raymond Jurewicz and Vern Loucks. Friends received at the JAMES F. FILIA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE, 354 Marguerite Ave., Wilmerding, on Wed., 3-9 p.m., with additional viewing at Corpus Christi Church, 2515 Versailles Ave., McKeesport on Thurs. from 2 p.m. until the Mass of Translation at 8 p.m. and Fri. from 8 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Fr.
