Francisco V. Domingo, 94
Francisco V. “Paco” Domingo, 94, of Dunedin, Florida, passed away, Tuesday, May 17, 2016. Visitation is Tuesday, May 31, 2016, from 09:30 am to10:30 am at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home 2853 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, Florida. A funeral service will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, Tuesday, May 31 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 750 San Salvador Drive, Dunedin, FL 34698. A reception will follow at the Dubois Center next door to the Church. Memorials may be made to the Suncoast Hospice.
Paco was born October 10, 1921 in Paranaque, Rizal, Philippines to Lorenzo Domingo and Louisa (Velasco) Domingo. He graduated from Far Eastern Institute of Technology in 1943 with a degree in Civil Engineering. During World War II, he served in the Philippine Army from 1943 to 1946. He was the Executive Officer (2nd Lt.) of the town unit of Paranaque, Rizal, and Combat-Officer (1st Lt.) receiving an honorary discharge in 1946. On August 6, 1953, he married Amor Mendoza. From 1948 to 1967 Paco was employed by the US Civil Aeronautics Administration and the US Army Corps of Engineers where he worked as a field/materials engineer in Okinawa, Japan, the Philippines, Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan. From 1968 to 1991, he worked as an engineer on various projects including the New Jersey Turnpike, the Washington, D.C. Metro, military housing in Saudi Arabia and Adak Alaska, and sanitary sewer in Cairo, Egypt. Paco enjoyed to work and reluctantly retired at the age of 70 in 1991. Paco was an avid sports fan who loved basketball, tennis golf and Gator Football. He also enjoyed fishing and playing Mah Jong with his children and grandchildren.
Paco is survived by his wife Amor Domingo, three sons, Jose Domingo and his wife Lisa of Chicago, Il, Frank Domingo and his wife Dorothy of Sarasota, FL, and Patrick Domingo and Cindy of Jacksonville, FL; daughter, Lynn Merchant of Dunedin, FL; five grandchildren, Molly, Maggie, Darian and Christian Domingo, and Ben Merchant, his sister Elizabeth of Cerritos, CA and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lorenzo and Louisa.
