Frank D. Summa Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 18, 2025.
Francis "Frank" Dominick Summa, 88, a lifetime resident of East Stroudsburg, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, April 15, 2025, surrounded by family in his home. He was the husband of Marie Jean (Garris) Summa, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.

Born on September 22, 1936, in East Stroudsburg, he was the son of the late Donato Anthony and Frances Marion (Puleo) Summa, and he served in the United States Army Reserves from 1961 to 1966.

Frank started cutting hair when he was twelve years old and was a self-employed barber, having owned and operated Summa's Barber Shop on Crystal Street in East Stroudsburg for 73 years until retiring on December 14, 2023.

He was a long-time member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church in East Stroudsburg, where he served as an usher for many years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Exchange Club and the Barbers Union, and he served on the East

Stroudsburg Zoning Hearing Board and Planning Commission for over 43 years.

Frank was a volunteer photographer for East Stroudsburg High School sports teams for over 36 years and many of his action shots adorn the school stadium walls. He also served on East Stroudsburg Crime Watch and, in earlier years, was a member of the Police Reserve of Monroe County.

He had a great love for his faith, family, community, and customers.

In addition to his wife, surviving are three children, Lisa Knaak and husband Robert of Tannersville, Patrice Bair and husband Curtis of Stroudsburg, and Kevin Summa and fiancée Kim Componile-Staples of Tannersville; four grandchildren, Selena Mills, Kelly Knaak, Evan Knaak and Aaron Summa; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marie Morman (wife of the late William) of Ohio.

There will be a viewing on Wednesday, April 23rd, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 24th, at 9:00 AM at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 78 Ridgeway Street, East Stroudsburg, with Rev. Donald Williams as celebrant. Burial will follow at Laurelwood Cemetery in Stroudsburg.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial remembrances be made to St. Matthew's Church or East Stroudsburg Halls and Walls of Fame.

I'm so sad to hear of Frank's passing. I've only just learned of this from cousin Angela. So many childhood memories and how quickly it passes by. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Frank was a very special person. I love him, miss him and he will always be in my heart. He was my best Friend, my Father-in-law, but more like a second Father to me. I will always cherish and remember the times we've spent together with our country rides, meals out, work projects, long conversations, watching football, our laughter and the list goes on.... May God embrace you with his loving care and may you rest easy with peace now and forever
