Frank Faso, Sr., 77, of the Town of Niagara, NY, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at his home. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Vincenzo and Margherita Faso.Frank was a lifelong resident of the Niagara Falls area. He attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High school where he excelled as a tailback for their football team under Coach Michael O’Laughlin. Frank served in the United States Naval Air Force during the Korean War as a Back Tail Gunner on a PBY aboard the USS Randolph from June 18, 1951 until his honorable discharge on June 2, 1955, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Navy Occupation Medal. On June 20, 1959, he married Elizabeth A. ‘Betty’ (Volpe) Faso at St. Joseph’s Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Mrs. Faso predeceased him on January 29, 2007. For thirty-four years, Frank worked as an instrument technician for E.I. DuPont in Niagara Falls, NY until his retirement in 1992. Frank was an avid hunter and fisherman and member of the LaSalle Sportsman Club in Niagara Falls for over fifty years. In the mid 1970’s, he also coached football for the Cataract Little League Football Association.Mr. Faso is survived by three sons, Frank (Kathy) Faso, Jr. of Ransomville, NY, James J. (Maria) Faso, John (Nancy) Faso N.F.P.D., both of Niagara Falls, NY; one daughter, Annemarie (Rand) LaBend of Niagara Falls, NY; nine grandchildren, Frank Faso III, Michael V, Faso, Nicholas J. .Faso, Marisa Faso, Matthew J. Faso, Samantha Faso, Maria Faso, Brandon LaBend and Trevor LaBend; one brother, John (Carolyn) Faso of Carson City, CA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the brother-in-law of Bruno (Bessie) Volpe of Niagara Falls, NY, Mary Grace (James) Mansu of Lodi, CA and late Carmella Volpe. Frank was also predeceased by one sister, Mary (late Anthony) DelMonte; and three brothers, Henry Faso, Angelo (late Sue) Faso and Matthew (late Irene) Faso.Friends may call on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the M.J. COLUCCI AND SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY, where funeral services will begin on Wednesday, October 29th at 8:45 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 27th Street and Independence Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. William Allegretto C.M. officiating.
