Frank Hudik Obituary
Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 13, 2025.
Frank Hudik was a force of nature wrapped in humor, storytelling, love, and let's not forget, stubbornness. Born to Frank J Hudik and Lorraine Hudik on September 24, 1958, in Amityville, NY. He was the youngest of 3, growing up on Massapequa, Long Island with his siblings, Ronald Hudik and Lorraine Lucken. Frank's early years were nothing short of extraordinary. From his youthful mischief to his love of fishing, he was destined for great things. Fresh out of Berner High School, he would set out on his grand adventure in 1976 by enlisting in the US Army at 17.
This new chapter led Frank to his first assignment in South Korea, where destiny introduced him to his soulmate, Oggie. The moment he saw her, he knew he would spend the rest of his life with her. Their whirlwind romance blossomed into a marriage in March 1978, a partnership that stood the test of time. Their love story was enriched with the birth of their daughter, Teresa, in April 1979 while stationed at Ft. Knox, Kentucky.
Frank achieved so much in his military career that spanned oceans and continents. From his time in Monterey, CA to his significant stint in Stuttgart, Germany, and then back stateside to Williamsburg, VA, he served his country with dedication and courage. His commitment was evident, serving during the Gulf War in Operation Desert Storm and Desert Shield. Frank's military career would return him to Germany and then Akrotiri, Cyprus. His role as 1st Sergeant for Eagle Flight Detachment in Cyprus crowned his two-decade, illustrious service, leading to his retirement in September 1995.
With Oggie by his side, Frank settled back to Virginia after his military retirement and built a home filled with warmth, love, and pride. He was a dedicated father, who lived to see his daughter blossom through her academic and professional pursuits. He was overjoyed with Teresa's marriage to Chad Batteen; gaining an incredible son-in-law whom he knew would protect his pride and joy. The birth of London, his granddaughter, lit up his world in ways only a grandchild can. She brought twinkles to Frank's eyes and immense pride to his smile. Frank became the doting grandpa who never ran short of pride and enthusiasm for his family's endeavors. Being a father and grandfather suited him beautifully.
Frank's life was also punctuated with cherished hobbies that reflected his spirited nature: the serenity of fishing and the precision of marksmanship. A passionate fisherman, he loved the sound of casting a line and the thrill of hooking a big one! When he wasn't on a lake, or at the range, you could often find Frank tinkering in the garage completing the never-ending list of "honey-dos".
Professionally, Frank transitioned into civilian life seamlessly while working at Lockheed Martin, then ITI Solutions, Inc., before embarking on a rewarding career at the Virginia SCC. His 20+ year tenure at the Commission as a Senior Safety Specialist for Underground Utility Damage Prevention demonstrated his unwavering dedication to service and community. Retirement from the SCC was merely a pause before setting foot on another adventure as Frank found himself back in South Korea for one last cherished chapter with Oggie. He spent the past two fulfilling years in Daegu working with the US Army as a civilian and exploring the beautiful country from which he started his journey through life.
On January 29, 2025, at the age of 66, Frank's colorful journey came to a peaceful conclusion. Frank is survived by his beloved wife, Oggie; his loving daughter, Teresa Batteen; and a granddaughter who lit up his world, London. With his parents already at peace, Frank leaves behind a legacy replete with love and memories. His life was one excellently lived and will be forever missed.
To honor Frank's life, a celebration will be held at Teresa's home in Newport News, VA, on Sunday, March 23rd from 2 to 5 pm. Please contact Teresa for details on how to join this tribute to a remarkable life.
