I'll always remember how gentle and reassuring Dr. Poole was. He helped me through many a rough spot during my childhood. He was a great man and a great doctor.

I was barely 19 years old, a college student, and first time mother when my obstetrician Dr Satterfield referred me to Dr. Poole in January, 1965. Dr. Poole made me feel like I was the best mother ever and that my daughter was the smartest, most beautiful, extraordinary baby girl in the world. He knew we had no insurance so he always treated my husband and me as well as our daughter at no extra cost. "Open your mouth, Mom, and let me see your throat, too." "Now if it were anyone else, I would put their baby in the hospital with bronchitis like this, but I know you will take good care of her." He was a wonderful, kind man. My siblings and I were patients of Dr. Poole in the 1950's when very few doctors in Raleigh accepted African American patients. I fondly remember my last appointment with him in 1969 when he gave me my pre-college physical. Thank you for all the years of great care.

Frank was a joy to talk to especially about college football and his beloved Clemson Tigers. I will always remember how he reached out to me when I was the "new, young guy" at the Rotary Club of Raleigh. Great person - he will be missed.

Jim this is your past best friend from nearly a lifetime ago on Pineview Street back in the late 1950's. Seems like yesterday playing that hockey game and playing catch. Your dad lived a wonderful and incredible life and one who loved his family and yes, also the Clemson Tigers. Your family are in my prayers. God Bless you all.

Dr. Poole took good care of me and my brother long ago, from the time I was 4 and my brother was a baby. He was a medical saint in our home, and what he recommended was gospel. One of our fondest stories of a Dr. Poole cure was what he told my mother to do whenever one of her kids had the common cold and runny nose, which usually occurred in the winter, of course -- let them sleep with the windows open in their bedroom. Whenever my mother started to protest about making the runny noses worse, Dr. Poole would say something along the lines of, "Noses are SUPPOSED to run when you have a cold. It's the way the body works. The cold air will help." His common-sense, less-is-often-more approach stood the test of time. Our family mourns the passing of a great doctor and great man.

Dr Frank.. well be forever missed by many..I loved getting the big warm hugs and kisses on the cheek when he entered the office..when asked how are you feeling Dr Frank? He would lift his leg up and down and say I am still kicking :) Dr Frank loved to teach his medical knowledge and I learned much from him..Rest in peace

Many times, I have been told the story of my premature birth in 1956 - how Dr. Poole held me while my dad drove from the hospital where I was born to another that could better care for a preemie. He cared for me, my sister and brother, and there was no doubt who I would turn to when my children were born. My family sends its condolences to Dr. Poole's family, along with our eternal gratitude for the excellent care he gave to all of us.

Dr. Poole was my pediatrician as a child growing up in Raleigh in the 60's and 70's. I later went on to become a doctor myself and he was forever one of my role models and inspirations. I would walk down to his home in the evenings when I was in college to talk with him about applying to medical school. Both he and Mrs. Poole would receive me with open arms and invite me in even though I showed up unannounced. What a gentle man. He had consummate class and a soothing countenance.
A wonderful sense of humor! I remember as a child climbing up on the exam table in my "fruit of the looms" and would briefly pull open the blinds which opened into a courtyard and yell "Hello Girls," to which I would scramble for cover. I lost touch over the years but always felt better just knowing he was in the world. He will be sorely missed. Ron Rogers, MD

Dr. Poole was my godfather, my neighbor, and very close friends with my family. Most of my memories of him are from our days in the neighborhood, seeing him working hard in the garden as he transformed a hillside into a remarkable place of beauty--so beautiful that I chose to have my wedding portrait in that garden in 1978. I know that my father (Courtney Egerton), along with Bill Spurlin, have probably already greeted Frank at the gates of heaven with a tee time on the gorgeous heavenly links! My love goes out to Harriet, Jim, Billy, and Cindy, and my mother sends her love as well. I know all of you will miss such a wonderful presence in your lives. God's Peace to all of you.

Dr. Frank was my doctor as a child (57). I remember all so well his tall statue, large smile, gentleness and his bow tie. When my own children were born he cared for them, mainly because I only trusted Dr.Pool. He came to my mothers home one snowy winter night to care for my brother, because he said the Roads were to rough. God directed Dr. Poole's path and kept him safe. I want to thank the family for giving him the freedom to care for the millions of children that he touched. The world has truly lost a tremendous individual. My prayers are with his wife and children. I loved Dr. Poole.

Dr. Poole was a wonderful doctor. Our daughter was born 43 years ago this weekend, and I will never forget how he tossed her in my arms to show me she would not "break". We loved him and still recall the many stories he told us. We extend our sympathy to the family.

What a wonderful gentleman who touched so many lives in everything he did. What a blessing he was to all. Starting in 1971 we knew him as "Uncle Frank" after we moved to Raleigh with our baby daughter, Laura. He, and eventually Dr. Jim, cared for her for until after she left for college. "Uncle Frank" always gave us a smile and a hug as part of each visit--the best medicine, I believe. We have wonderful, fond memories. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time.

So sorry to hear of Dr. Poole's passing. He use to be my Dr when I was little (39 now) along with my older sister and brother. He was one of the best Dr's and we still talk about him today. So thankful my mom starting when at his practice when I was born. I will always have a place in my heart for Dr. Poole.
