PELHAM, N.H. — Frank C. Simone, 89, of Pelham, N.H., died Saturday morning, May 23, 2009 at Salem Haven Nursing Home in Salem, N.H. He was the husband of the late Ethel C. (Powell) Simone, who died June 29, 2008.
Born in Methuen, Nov. 24, 1919, the son of the late Charles and the late Vincenza (LaTorre) Simone, he attended Methuen Schools and was a graduate of Methuen High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and held membership in the American Legion in Lawrence, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10722 in Lawrence. He was also a member and past Grand Councilor of the United Commercial Travelers Union of New England, a civic organization that pursues community service, public safety activities including youth programs, drug awareness campaigns, cancer education and prevention and aid to people with intellectual disabilities. He was currently serving as the Secretary and Treasurer of UCT Council 713 in Lawrence.
Before retiring, Mr. Simone was a bus driver for the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA) in Boston for many years.
He is survived by a son, Charles R. Simone and his wife Andrea of Debary, Fla.; a son-in-law, Stephen DeFelice Sr. of Debary, Fla., the widow of his late daughter, Virginia (Simone) DeFelice; six grandchildren, Deborah DeFelice of Salem, N.H., Stephen Defelice Jr. of Waterville, Maine, Donna Ferreira of Plaistow, N.H., David DeFelice of Pittsfield, N.H., Michael DeFelice of Sandown, N.H., Lisa Simone of Goffstown, N.H.; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Holozubiec of Amesbury and Marion Crawford of Ossipee, N.H.; and two brothers-in-law, Herbert Powell of Hill, N.H. and Robert Powell of Methuen; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also the brother-in-law of the late Franklin Powell.
ARRANGEMENTS: Friends may call at the Pelham Funeral Home, 11 Nashua Road, Pelham, N.H. from 8 to 10 a.m. Friday. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick Church in Pelham on Friday at 10:30 a.m. Burial in the Gibson Cemetery.
