Lifelong educator Franklin A. Lemmon passed away on December 31, 2022. Frank was born in Houston to Louise Marie (Connable) and Cecil Ross Lemmon on December 21, 1936. At Stephen F. Austin High School, he met and fell in love with classmate Betty Jo Hamilton – his future wife. They got engaged at the Senior Prom. After high school, Frank attended night school at the University of Houston, earning a bachelor’s and a master’s degree (education), all while working days as a draftsman at a pipeline corporation. Throughout Frank’s life, he was always grateful for and loved the University of Houston. He and Betty remained close with their friends from high school.

Frank started his career in the Houston ISD at Cullen Junior High School in the early 60’s, later becoming Assistant Principal at Albert Thomas Junior High. In 1972, Frank moved to the Klein school district, starting as an Assistant Principal at Klein High School and later as the opening Principal of Hildebrandt Intermediate, then the Principal at Klein High School. From Klein High. He was promoted to Director of School Administration and then the Assistant Superintendent of School Administration, from which position he retired in 2000. Even after retirement, Frank worked as a substitute administrator in the Klein school district. In 2021, the district honored Frank’s dedication to the students and staff by naming its Administration building after him.
Frank loved his family and community deeply and lived a life of honor. Everyone could always count on Frank to do the right thing. His deep and hearty laugh will be sorely missed. Mr. Lemmon was an amazing example for the KISD administrators, and for all of the students that he led through the years in KISD! We were honored to follow his lead and to serve under his direction!

I was a first year music teacher straight out of college when I was assigned to Albert Thomaas Junior High in the fall of 1968. Frank was the assistant principal at this school which had just opened in the preceding spring semester. He was a very dedicated administrator and had the respect of the Thomas faculty and staff and students. He was very helpful to me as I learned how to deal with large classes of students, many of whom had no previous experience with the arts.
I extend my deepest sympathies and prayers to his family.
