In memory of
Monyne Cotton
May 24, 2011
I worked with Dr. Sidell when I was a young and new OB Rn at Methodist Hospital in the 60's and have fond memories of Dr. Sidell and his pleasant way of being a professional MD and still able to be a caring and compassionate individual at the same time. One of my classmates worked in his office and had alot of nice things to say about him. The Sidell family have my sympathies as they also have many fine memories of a wonderful man. Monyne Cotton, RN

It is with deep sadness that we learn of the passing of Dr. Sidell. He was the epitome of what a family physician should be and a real advocate for "his" pilots. Oh how I enjoyed my twice yearly visits with Franklin; his fatherly and medical wisdom was graciously imparted and greatly valued. To Phil, Sue, Helen, Cheryl and the entire Sidell family, Lisa's and my heartfelt condolences go out to you for the loss of such a dear man. May God bless and sustain you during this most difficult time.

We were so sorry to learn of Dr. Sidell's passing. When my husband left the Navy, we needed a doctor. Another family doctor told us to observe the doctors in the emergency room and we would find our doctor. That doctor turned out to be Dr. Sidell. My Navy pilot husband found a friend and I found what we lovingly called our "well doctor." He was an excellent diagnostician and dispensed kindly words of wisdom and down to earth advice that healed the body and heart. It was such a delight to arrive for an appointment and find his latest orchid in bloom sitting in the waiting room. I became an orchid lover thanks to his interest. But most important was his way of dealing with my smoking. It was his gentle and quite words that convinced me to quit and I never thought of going back. I credit his "doctoring" to my well being today. He made living with and without illness so uncomplicated. He will be missed but his wisdom lives on. It's taken many years but we've found our next Dr. Sidell. They were good friends and we are assured we are now finally in good hands. Our prayers and thoughts go out to his family. He will sadly be missed but the orchid in my office window reminds me what a very special person in my life still shines brightly.

Hey Iris, Who will fix my mom's computer? We are enjoying great memories of a man who loved life, and showed our family how to embrace living everyday. What a guy, what a life, what an example for our kids! He is loved by us all.

For the past 23 years Franklin has been my Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) performing my first class flight physicals in the most caring, gentle, and professional manner possible. But more than that, I consider him a friend and father figure. We had much in common. Our wives are both name Iris. He loved to talk about aviation; the latest at NWA, the merger with DAL and anything related to flying. We also shared a common interest in photography and Macintosh (Apple) computers and ended up conversing about those subjects prior to, during and after my physicals. There were times when I was invited to have lunch with the clinic staff following my appointments so that we could continue our conversations. I am grateful for having had the good fortune of knowing Franklin for the past 23 years. I am a better person for that.
To Phil and the Sidell family along with Sue, Helen, and Cheryl, please accept my deepest sympathy for the loss of Franklin this week. A wonderful man who touched so many for so many years. Although we will miss him dearly on earth, I have no doubt that the gates of heaven have opened wide for him.

Although starting with my flight physicals, my wife, Syd and I made Franklin, and now Phil, our family doctors as well. What a great office after all these years. The best statement Franklin made to me was "First we practice good medicine, then we will worry about getting you back in the cockpit." Our heartfelt condolences to Phil and the Sidell family along with Sue, Helen, and Cheryl.

What wonderful memories I have of visiting Iris and Frank as we prepared for the wedding of Katie and Justin. Frank showed me every part of the house, the gardens, and gave me a ride in his famous car! I feel fortunate that my son Justin married into such a warm and caring family headed by Iris and Frank. Spending time with both of them the few days before the wedding was spectacular. My special thoughts go out to all of you as you cherish Frank's wonderful life.

Dr Sidell was a terrific ambassador for the North Stars and I know thoroughly enjoyed the game of hockey and his time spent with the players. It was an honor to sign his "Wall Of Fame" located in his office

As a friend of his son, Dr. Phil Sidell, while growing up, I had the pleasure of joining Dr. Franklin and his family for a memorable camping trip in Montana. I feel very fortunate to have gotten a glimpse of him as a father.

Dr. Franklin Sidell was my friend and Aviation Medical Examiner for almost thirty years. He was open, friendly, competent and professional, and I almost looked forward to my semi-annual visits to the Morningside Clinic for another session of, “You Bet Your Job.” That was a standard pilot joke, but I never had that feeling as I walked in the Clinic. I can still see the examining room with the NHL motif and all of the major player’s signatures on the wall. Dr. Sidell was just a pleasure to be around, and when I moved to Florida I got heavy into one of his passions, Orchids. Mine are blooming now, and Orchids will forever remind me of my friend Dr. Franklin Sidell.

Started to go for my FAA physicals with Dr. Sidell in 1969. So many stories. I can sum it up by saying he made me feel like I was the only patient he ever had. A great doctor who was a regular guy.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Dr.Sidell.How nice though he was able to be at home.It was I think 50+ years ago that he was our family Physician. My dad Harvey has since passed away, but as a young child I remember thinking "does Mom and Dad come here to see a Dr. or visit with a dear friend"?Because thats the type of man Franklin was.He made you feel truly cared for.Dr.Franlin was my Dr.as I was pregnant and delivered my first child Sean, now 33.When I think back over the years,I think Franklin had alot to do with my start to appreciating and the love for flower gardens. We would also share along with my Mom now 91(also a patient of his) our love and good-times of DisneyWorld.Dr.Sidell was truly what a Dr. should be.I am grateful his gift was passed down to his son Dr.Phil.Our thoughts and prayers are with all the family and dear friends.

I met Franklin in the late 90s when I received my initial 1st Class FAA medical certificate. I felt right at home with the "small town" family doctor tucked away in the "big city. "His bedside manner, sharing of family and personal stories, and showing his photographs won me over on that visit and many more. I've been at Morningside ever since along with my friends and family... a wonderful man that will be missed. My prayers and thoughts go out to the immediate and extended Sidell family.

To the Sidell family:
I was saddened to read about the death of Dr. Sidell this morning. He was like a second father to me growing up as was the entire Sidell family like my second family. I fondly remember going on camping trips with the Sidells back in the 1960's and 1970's and even moved in with them for a while when my family moved to TX. Frank introduced me to many of the MN North Stars when I was growing up giving me opportunities that I would not have had otherwise. If I recall correctly, he even let me take my driver's test is his 1966 Plymouth Barracuda!
Although I have not seen any of the Sidell family for many years, I have fond memories of times together and am grateful for them making me part of their family for so many years.
I am sorry for your loss and will keep you in my prayers. May your memories of his time here on Earth help to ease the pain of his loss.
