Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 14, 2014.
MAXEY FRANKLYN DAVIDSON, 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Waterford, Michigan, with family by his side on August 17, 2014. Born October 29, 1927 to the late Ernest R. and Winifred May (Davidson) Maxey, Frank was the youngest of seven children (Chester R., Virginia, George W., Richard W., John H., Grant Edward) all of whom are deceased. Frank was a decorated WWII veteran who served honorably in the U.S. Army. He earned a BA from the University of Illinois and a MA from Wayne State University before embarking on a fulfilling 26-year teaching career at Burton Elementary School in Huntington Woods, Michigan, teaching 4th through 6th grades and specializing in mathematics. Coach, published author, mentor/father to many, Frank's passions also included fishing, golf, baseball, reading and spending time with his family. Frank was married to Joyce Rita Ganger for 41 years, and, after her passing, married June Lorraine Wolfe McCracken. They were married for 21 years before June's death in May 2013. Frank leaves behind children Sally (John) Maxey-Schabow, Susan (Richard) Maxey-Hovey, Thomas (Alecia) Maxey, Linda (Lloyd) Clark-Roberts; step-children Barry, Kelly and Randall (Tamara) McCracken; grandchildren Abraham and Gabriel Hovey, Paul Lumbye (deceased); step-grand-children Bryan Corbet, McKensey (Josh) Fulton, Eric, Darby and Peri McCracken; great-grandchildren Mario Schabow and Vera Fulton. A Celebration of Frank's Life will be held in October. Frank was the best Husband, Dad, Mentor and Friend that one could ever have. His positive example, hearty laugh, helping hand, smiling face and loveable demeanor will be greatly missed by those who knew him. His was a life well-lived and he was a man well-loved.
