I recall Mr Barber as a perfectionist and could recognize quality. He and David Dodge interviewed me before letting me install and design a custom HVAC System at his place in Monteray MA, his get away. I could sit with him on a Saturday post completing his job and just listen to his stories and adventures, he also was the one to give me the confidence to go out on my own and become very successful in Southern Berkshire County MA. I miss our conversations. Rest in peace Mr Barber. My friend. And mentor.

David, Daniel and the rest of the Barber family. I enjoyed knowing Lee for so many summers!! How lucky I was to have been able to spend my youth at the SGC playing tennis with him, learning from him how to be a young gentleman, and enjoying the toys he brought me (and an occasional ride in the Jag)! I admired his kindness to all he met and the way he parented. I hope, and believe I raised my two sons as well and with as much love as he raised his children. I will miss our conversations and coffee on the porch at SGC. I wish him peace.
Regards and best wishes,
Chris White

IN MEMORY OF MR.FRED LEE BARBER

The news that our dear friend, Mr. Fred Lee Barber has passed away saddened all his friends around the world. This is especially true for me who have been blessed to call him my mentor, friend and business associate for Nearly 40 years. The loss of some one so dear to me cannot be expressed in Words. Pictures of him keep coming back in my mind.

Even before I started doing business with Lee and before I know him, I was impressed by this charismatic gentleman when I saw him walking around the Peninsula Hotel lobby always warmly greeted by the hotel staff and in return he never failed to have a few words with them. One can feel the warm, kindness and care coming out of him.

I still can not remember how we came to know each other but for years after we have exchanged name cards we made it a point that we would have lunch together whenever he came to Hong Kong. We exchanged views on China and we discussed family matters. We never discussed doing business together because he was so loyal with his existing vendor . It was only after his existing vendor decided to stop production that we became his vendor.

Lee had his way of making people that he met at ease and he always carry with him a pocket of little plastic frog figurines and he would give people that attend to him with this little figurine and it was amazing how he could break the ice and build up a happy relationship with this. I am sure if I try to do the same I will never have the same result. This just show it is not what you do but how you do that count and Lee had the touch.

I am most impressed by his view on family life. The fact he had managed to bring up his two sons singled handed into two fine gentlemen with all his goodness in them is amazing. I seldom see young men in this modern day that have such love and respect for the family and with such integrity. They have been carrying their family business in the same spirit as their father and maintain the principles that Lee had established.

I have the blessing of doing business with the Barber family for 30 years now and the Barbers have always been fair, loyal and honorable. I am comfortable that Lee had prepared a foundation that our relation with the Barber family will remain unchanged for years to come. What more can I ask from a friend !

Lee, you are no longer with us but you will always in our minds.

WITH LOVES
Edmund Young.

Sorry to see the passing away of a good old friend and a mentor. Last time we met was over breakfast at the University Club in Manhattan two years ago. He went to details on how we could improve the content of my company's 60th anniversary journal. His advices were always sincere and insightful.

Dear Dan and David,

Your father always brightened our lives at Neue Galerie openings with little gifts, mostly frogs, and I received a blinking ring once. We will miss him very much!
