Fred was one of the great geography professors at SIUE. I thoroughly enjoyed Fred and his teaching style. I think of Fred and Bob Koepke often!!!!

Dr. Lampe had a positive and major influence in my undergraduate and graduate Geography degrees from SIUE. I even picked up his "punning" ability. On the last day of a graduate level class, Dr. Lampe treated us (students) to European wines, cheeses, meats and breads to celebrate our fine work. "One of the good guys"! Thank you and God Speed!

I remember Fred very well. I was a student in the Earth Science, Geography, and Planning Department in the mid seventies and thoroughly enjoyed the classes that I had with him. I am sorry for your loss.

Fred was one of the great professor I had and I also worked for him as a grad assistant. He truly brought life to the world of geography. He will be greatly missed and remembered.

I attended SIUE from 1969-73. I do not remember the names of too many of my professors outside of my major, but I have never forgotten Fred. He presented the material in an informative and entertaining way that made you want to learn. When they came up with the phrase, "He is a gentleman and a scholar," they were thinking about Fred.
