To the family of Kirk,
I was thinking of him just today and decided to Google him. I can't believe I missed an opportunity to talk to him by just a few days.
I knew Kirk many many years ago in Towson Md. 1968/1969. We were both in a dark place in our young lives and receiving therapy. We became good friends. We were roommates. We would listen to good music. He loved Traffic and Blood Sweat And Tears and Led Zeppelin. He had a large tank with turtles and he was always cleaning the turtle tank. We would talk about the future. He was wise for his age. He was intelligent. I met his parents and he met mine. He talked about his sister Molly. He had a peculiar habit of always eating his dessert before eating his meal and he thought his arms were too skinny. How all this stuff is coming back to me as I write this is so strange. How the death of someone you haven't seen in over 50 years can trigger long gone memories. The last time I saw Kirk was in Atlanta, Ga in 1970 or 1971. Our lives never crossed again. But he was one of the few people in my life I never forgot.

Kirk was so close to our family- he was best man of our wedding, godfather to two of our children, and best friend of Bill. Our children grew up together. He will be so very missed
By all of us.
There wasn´t a superbowl he would miss and he always cooked amazing food. His love of animals was shown by him stopping to pet dogs on the street, sneak snacks all the time to our dogs and his, and how he loved his special Charlie who went everywhere with him.
Most of all he loved to talk about his children. He was so proud of them
And loved them so much. When he was in failing health towards the end of his life, he talked how much Kyle and Ashley were helping him get through it all.
He was a businessman, a best friend, a loving father.

I could sit for hours listening to Kirk talk about various things, but it was his passion for injustice that drew me closer to him. He particularly disliked when others used their positions of authority to make other people feel less than.

He used to tell me about his family lineage -- in which I was impressed; and, at the same time, was sopping his pita bread in some hummus at one of our favorite restaurants in Arlington, VA. I am grateful to have met a man of his statute. He taught me that it doesn't matter where you come from it's where you're headed. He believed in me more than I believed in myself. While I did not think he was perfect, he did strive for perfectionalism even as his health was failing, still persevering, still willing to help me and always reminding me that "time waits for no one" . You fought to the end and I believe that God said "That's enough, you fought a good fight and then He wrapped you in His Arms and brought you home with Him! My condolences to his family! Kirk's parents and my parents were dear friends when both families lived in Leesburg (our family lived at Rokeby), and Kirk and I were friends. Kirk's mom, Nancy, was also a Randolph-Macon Woman's College graduate and attended my graduation there in 1975. When I moved to New York for a job facilitated by Kirk's dad, I got to know Kirk's sister Molly. I now live in the SC Lowcountry and I regret that I did not keep up with Kirk or Molly. Please pass along my condolences to Molly. I am so sorry Kirk was lost at such a young age.

My dear friend Mary Jo introduced me to Kirk over a decade ago to help with his work with veterans. I always admired his passion for helping them and the honor and respect with which he treated aging service members. He would spend hours with them, listening to their stories, taking coffee with them, or taking them to lunch.

Kirk had an indefatigable spirit and creative mind. He really did want to make the world a better place.

RIP Kirk; your passing made me very sad. May God´s peace be with you and your family.

I know the Apple Store will also miss you along with several car dealerships; but those are lighthearted stories for another time. Rest well.
