I met Fred Lukermann 8 years ago. He was very kind to me in his gruff way. Fred had a heart of gold. I always enjoyed making him laugh, not out loud of course but as if he was sharing the experience with him and myself. He was a lion and a great man.

I wish to extend my condolences to the Lukermann family. I, like many of the people who have posted here, am a U of M graduate--out of the Humphrey. I am grateful for the legacy created by Mr. Lukermann and the opportunities for greater understanding I received as a student and CURA fellow. I also had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Lukermann; what a genuinely delightful woman. You all are in my prayers.

I attended the U of M in the mid to late 80's and Professors like Fred Lukermann were the reason I majored in Geography. By the time I graduated it was Dean Lukermann that handed me my diploma. He was dedicated to the University and the Geography department, and it was inspiring. Please accept my sincere sympathy,

Professor Lukermann was one of the finest teachers I had at the U. of Minn. back in the late 1950's. His lectures were never boring. He would move from topic to topic very quickly, so a student like myself had to always stay focused.
The very best to his family.
