Fred was the father I never had. We could talk for hours about life, politics, women, technology…you name it. I was his neighbour for 16 years, and I really did miss him when he had to move away to assisted living about a year ago.
He was a tough guy…refusing to ask for help unless absolutely in dire need, and insisting on providing a helping hand to others. He brought a smile to everyone in the Walnut Place building complex for decades, and he was universally loved by all.
I just wish his last year on earth could have been better. He did not want to leave his home or the friends that surrounded him. But failing health got the better of him, and he had to go.
He was such a funny man. Smart and quick no matter what. I just can’t believe he’s really gone…

To Fred's family
I was very sad to hear of Fred's passing and my thoughts go out to his family.
I will miss his smiling face and the conversations we had. I spoke with Fred often as he was a roommate of my father Ron at St. Vincents Langara. He was referred to as Uncle Fred. I still think of him each time I visit my father.
May his memories be cherished by all that knew him.

My dad is a resident of St Vincents Langara (Cedar Unit). I was fortunate to to have met "Uncle" Fred and enjoyed my chats with him on visits to see my dad. I was saddened to hear of his passing and wish to convey my condolences to all of his family. I will miss him. He was such a dear, dear man.
