Fred Perry Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 5, 2022.
Fred W. Perry, aka Boston Freddy passed away peacefully at home in Arlington, Mass., on Sunday, August 28, 2022 at the age of 78. Fred was a Vietnam veteren.

He is survived by his wife, Marissa Perry, his son, Fred Perry, Jr., his daughter, Karen Bazzinotti, his grandson Anthony Bazzinotti, and his sister Nancy Perry, as well as his beloved pug Calvin, and fair-feathered friend Rosie. Fred was predeceased by his parents, Joseph Anthony and Ruth Margaret (Smith) Perry, his much-loved mother-in-law, Marie Moscatel, and long-time canine companions Elvis and Lucy.

Born in Somerville, Mass., Fred was selling newspapers and shining shoes in Inman Square at the early age of six. He progressed to shagging balls and broken bats at Fenway Park where he talked to Ted Williams every day. Fred attended Cambridge High and Latin, playing the bass snare in the Cabilaros drum corps. When he was fifteen, he was onstage with Arthur Fiedler at Symphony Hall in Boston. Fred enlisted in the Navy in 1963 and served for five years as a member of the Naval Reserve Security Group. In 1970, he opened his first bar in Boston, The Brigham Circle Townhouse, also called The Switch. He lived in California and Maine before settling for good in Arlington.

Horses were one of Fred s greatest passions. The highlight of his year was when he traveled to Saratoga, Florida, or Kentucky to spend time at the races and to enjoy the company of good friends. He delighted in good food, seeking it out wherever he went, and he could talk to a lampost. He had friends everywhere. He lovingly dedicated many years of his life to caring for his mother-in-law Marie as she aged, even to the extent of taking her with him on his many travels. He also helped as many veterens as he could during his time living in Maine and Boston. Fred was an avid lover of all animals, never without a dog or three in his life. Boston Freddy was a larger-than-life character, the smartest man you d ever meet with an incredible facility for numbers. He had a heart as big and generous as the world and he was always right.

Fred and Marissa were together 27 years and he will be missed very much by his Wife. To the moon and back.

A brief honor ceremony will be held Saturday, September 10 at the Veterans section of the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Arlington Massachusetts at 11:30 a.m..

Marissa, you may not know me well, but you have taken care of Ginger and Emrys many times and I know they loved Fred dearly. Emrys is always so excited when we drive into your neighborhood, and I know a lot of that has to have been his "Fred time" and the love he got and gave. Fred was such a wonderful man and I will miss his solid presence and kindness, and his humor. Please just ask if you need anything at all.
