Fred Rybarz, Sr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 18, 2024.
Fred Peter Rybarz, Sr., age 88, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2024, at his home in Palmetto, FL.

Fred is survived by Mary Ann, his loving wife of 40 years. He leaves behind his children from his first marriage, Fred (Debra) Rybarz, Jr., Cindy (Mary McDowell) Rybarz, Jeff Rybarz, Jennifer (Mark) Messner; as well as his stepchildren, Larry (Michelle Miller) Plotzke, and Theresa (Loyd) Selover, whom Fred regarded as his children. He is also survived by many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and longtime friends.

Fred was preceded in death by his father Peter Rybarz, mother Stella Midgley, brother Donald Rybarz, and half-sister Linda Midgley.

Born in Detroit, MI, on June 22, 1936, Fred was raised in a multi-generational home with his parents and beloved grandparents who immigrated from Poland. He resided in southeast Michigan most of his life and relocated to Florida in 2022.

Fred was fun-loving, had a terrific sense of humor, and loved socializing. He didn't take himself too seriously, and you might remember him by his trademark funny T-shirts. He loved family gatherings and was amazing with babies and children, who absolutely adored him.

Fred was an enterprising youngster who took small jobs and used a wagon to haul materials for the neighborhood manufacturing shops. He became a toolmaker by trade, and in the mid-1960s opened his own shop, eventually pioneering an innovative tool used in the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals.

In semi-retirement, Fred launched a new career doing home renovations and constructing decks. For this career change, he cut his teeth by building his own lakefront home, using a blend of new technologies and traditional methods. He was a true craftsman whose work was always top-notch.

Fred was an avid outdoorsman and a skilled hunter. He loved the sport, especially the time it allowed him to spend with his sons, son-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandson, who shared his passion. Fred was an accomplished bow-hunter and had a record posted in the Pope and Young record book.

Later in life Fred entered local politics when he became the "Mayor" of the tight-knit group of friends and neighbors in his apartment community. He cherished these friendships, and his family will be forever grateful for all the love and support.

In lieu of a memorial service, Fred preferred we celebrate his life less formally and most joyfully.

In Fred's words, he loved, laughed, and lived his life fully. We will miss him immensely. Na Zdrowie!

Fred became my first cousin when he married Mary Ann. He was a fixture at our cousins' gatherings in St. Clair Shores and usually brought me the best Kruschiki in the local area. Fortunately, we also were able to have visits in Florida. I will miss him...
