Fred Sanders Obituary

Published by The Chronicle from Jan. 2 to Jan. 3, 2010.
Fred Johnson Sanders
April 3, 1929-Dec. 26, 2009

Fred passed away peacefully of natural causes at age 80 on Sat. Dec. 26, 2009 in Vancouver, WA. Fred was born in St. Albans, WV to Frank Power Sanders, Sr. (electrician) and Gladys Willie Lambert Sanders. Fred was the youngest of 5 children and came to Washington State from West Virginia as a child with his family.
Fred married Katie Marie Taylor, Oct. 31, 1953 in Kelso, WA, and fathered 5 children, Debra, Danita, Alan, Steve and Joel. Additionally, Katie brought two children to the marriage, Randy and Roger Tatum.
After Katie's death in 1973, Fred never remarried but had a long time companion, Cleo (Pinky) Warwick, who precedes him in death.
Fred graduated from White Pass High School, Randle, WA. He participated in every sport, winning awards and trophies.
Fred served in the Coast Guard off the waters of Alaska during the Korean War. He was a staunch Democrat and an active member of Electrical Union, Local IBEW 970. Fred thought there were only two kinds of music - Country and Western. He loved to search for treasures at garage sales, auctions, antique shows and do other bargain hunting activities. Fred was always up for a good party. He enjoyed laughing and eating and playing cards.
Fred is lovingly remembered and will be greatly missed by his children, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Fred leaves relatives and friends throughout Washington, Oregon and California; his sister Viola (Auntie Boe) Staats, and brother Frank Sanders, Jr., and sister-in-law Carolyn Sanders.
His family extends a special thanks to the many people who helped care for Fred in his last months of life.
Services will be held at the Methodist Church in Randle, WA, Jan. 6, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. Viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Silverbrook Cemetery in Randle directly after the service. Reception to follow.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Fred was a wonderful patient and person, by the time he left us at St.Johns' we all felt like he was a member of our family. We loved him dearly and enjoyed caring for him. He will be missed by all of us.
