Fred Smith Obituary

Fred A. Smith, 90, of Mars, died Monday evening, Aug. 8, 2016, at Butler VNA Inpatient Hospice. Born in Richland Township, Oct. 24, 1925, he was a son of the late Denver and Ida Elizabeth Snyder Smith. Fred retired after 34 years as a chief master sergeant with the Air National Guard at the Pittsburgh Airport. He had served as a chief master sergeant with the Air Force during World War II. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Mars, was a past president of the Mars AARP, a life member of the Handyman of America and the NRA. A member of the Mars American Legion Post 787, he was Butler County Veteran of the Year for 2007-08. He also belonged to the Enlisted and Sergeants Associations. Surviving are his wife, T. Jane Ehrhart Smith, whom he married on Nov. 23, 1950; a son, Fred M. Smith and his wife, Kathleen, of York; a daughter, Patricia J. Smith, of Mars; and his grandchildren, Krystle Smith and Justin, Evan and Johanna Smith. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ida Mae Miller; and a brother, Denver Smith.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the McDONALD-AEBERLI FUNERAL HOME INC., 238 Crowe Ave., Mars. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. Jeff Lawther officiating. Burial will be in Mars Cemetery, Adams Township.
