Uncle Fred was a mysterious element for me growing up. Only saw him a time or two each year. But he would drive up in a 4x4 or a motorcycle or cop car or something so different. As a kid and then young adult Uncle Fred was a person to emulate. He rode motos. I rode too. He flew airplanes. I did too. He lived in CO for a bit. I did too. I regret not seeing Uncle Fred before he passed. But his legacy continues... My youngest son plays the acoustic guitar Uncle Fred gave me.

Jeff and I worked with Fred at SPD. Fred really knew how to play a joke on new radio operators. One morning close to 5 AM as the shift was ending i got a radio call that a car was upside down in the canal. The registered name came back to my dad. So I called him. Fred came running into the radio room yelling stop. It was a joke. That is your car. I didn´t realize it was registered to your dad. My dad happened to work at the yard on the police vehicles and was a tough guy. I kinda think Fred was worried what "joke" Red Parry might play on him. Fred made working at SPD fun and entertaining. He will be missed by all. Our thoughts are with all those that loved him.
