Fred Wang

RIP Cadet. Thank you for your friendship.

I met Fred in May of 2014. Fred had seen my profile on match.com and decided that he would send me an email. I emailed back and asked him what he liked about my profile. He replied, your picture reminded me of my mother.

Our first date was at Pinnacle Peak. I remember Fred was waiting out front with a scowl on his face as I was my usual 15 minutes late. After we sat down to dinner we began to talk. Fred appeared to be a very honest, kind, intelligent and gentle person. Sometimes first impressions aren't always what they seem to be, but in this case Fred ultimately turned out to be all those things and more.

I distinctly remember Fred telling me that he recently was placed on kidney dialysis and that he had suffered a heart attack several years before. He also underwent triple bypass surgery. He then went on to tell me that he was running a feed store off of his 4 acre property that he had purchased just a year ago in Vail. He mentioned that on the property he had 3 horses and 2 dogs. At this point I took a deep breath. I used to think that I had a lot on my plate as a single mom with two teenagers while working full-time as a special education teacher.

After listening to Fred with all that he had going on he still had dreams of turning his property into something bigger. I have no doubt that had Fred been able to live on this Earth even for just a few years longer, he would have seen his dreams come to fruition. Fred was a dreamer and a doer. He was a visionary. Fred was a rare and unique person. He dared to do what he dared to dream. I had a lot of respect for his vision and determination. I only wish that I had met him sooner.

Fred and I came to love each other with all our faults, failures, triumphs and attributes. In December of 2015 we decided to marry and eloped to Las Vegas where his brother Danny would be our Witness. It was a beautiful ceremony at the Bellagio with only one guest in attendance.

Fred and I were hopeful looking towards the future waiting for the day when Fred would get his kidney transplant. Sadly enough that day never came.

As each day week and month went by Fred was always hopeful. We would go to visit his primary care physician and the doctor would tell him "well Fred, your sugar is high, your white blood cell count is low, your blood pressure is high, your cholesterol isn't too bad and you really need to watch your diet. Fred would then reply, so everything looks good right doc?

This past Valentine's Day was very sad for me. I had just lost my wonderful husband and was saddled with the task of trying to explain to our three dogs what happened to their Daddy. Instead of moping around the house I decided to do laundry. While putting away the last things that Fred had worn I came across a small box in the back of Fred's sock drawer. I reached in and pulled it out. I looked at the box realizing I hadn't seen this box before. To my surprise, when I opened the box, there was a beautiful gold bracelet inside. It was my Valentine's Day gift!

Thank you so much Fred for choosing me to be your wife and bringing happiness and love into my life. I love you Fred. God bless you always. Caryl
