Fred WINKLER Obituary

Published by Journal-News on Jun. 15, 2018.
WINKLER, Fred C. Age 89, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2018 in Hamilton, Ohio. Fred was born October 14, 1928 in Irvine, KY. Fred's parents moved the family to Hamilton in 1935 where Fred attended Hamilton schools, graduating from HHS in 1948. Fred remained a life-long resident of Hamilton. After high school Fred served in the US Army, stationed in Fort Bliss, TX during the Korean War. After his years of service Fred began his career at Fisher Body-Hamilton while also earning his degree via UC night classes and starting a family with his wife, Dorothy. Fred and Dorothy were married from 1950 until her death in 1993. They had two sons, Kent and David; and a daughter, Nancy, who passed at birth. Fred retired from GM in 1984 as Superintendent of Industrial Engineering after 30+ years of employment. Post-retirement he often traveled to Ft. Myers, FL and enjoyed fishing, golf, and senior-softball well into his 70's. Baseball was his sport of choice; when not playing ball he was a well-regarded coach in the Champion Leagues at Thompson Park and manager for the Hamilton senior softball teams. He also loved music and dancing his entire life and was a friend to everyone he met. Fred reconnected with high school classmate Betty Cox in the 1990's. Fred and Betty shared a love of dancing and enjoyed over 20 years together. They were married in 2007. Fred was a proud husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Dorothy M. (Gardner) Winkler, daughter Nancy, parents Fred & Sadie Winkler, brother Harold Winkler, sister Ruby Singleton, sister-in -law Violet Winkler, nephew Charles Daneff, niece Rhonda Gardner, and brothers-in-law Robert Singleton, Preston Daneff, Robert Gardner and James Gardner. Fred is survived by his wife, Betty; sister Norma Daneff; sons Kent and David; daughter-in-law, Kristine; grandchildren Ashley, Casey, Charlie, and Tommy Winkler; nieces and nephews "Butch" (Bernice) Winkler, Keith (Pam) Singleton, Linda (Dan) Martin, Nancy (Ken) Gould; step-daughter, Kathy (Marcum) Perry; step-grandchildren Jason (Sarah) Perry, Sara (John) Lipari, and Stephanie (James) Jackson, step-great-grandchildren Beckett and Leo Perry and Jay Jackson, and sisters-in-law, Margie Gardner and Gloria Gardner. Fred's family would like to thank Hospice of Cincinnati as well as the staff at Westover Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility for the professionalism, comfort and care extended to Fred during his final weeks. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 18, 2018, at 2:30 P.M. at Weigel Funeral Home, 980 N. W. Washington Blvd., Hamilton, Ohio with Jack Young officiating. Visitation will take place from 12:30 P.M. until time of the service. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum. Dave, our best to you in the loss of your dad. He always seemed to be just truly a nice guy who loved his family certainly and also was easy to know for so many of us who knew him at a ball game or event as " Mr Winkler". You were fortunate to have him!
