BRISTOL, Va. – "For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." – II Timothy 4:6-8
Freddie Ray Steele, age 53, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, at his home.
He was born March 21, 1953, in Annapolis, Md., a son of the late William Hayes Steele Jr. and Ruby Parker Steele. He was a crane operator at Powell Construction Co. and a member of Kingdom Way Church of God.
Survivors include wife, Teresa J. Wampler Steele; sons, John "Teddy" Hill, David Steele and wife Cynthia, Darin Steele and Matthew Steele; daughters, Christy Owens and Melissa Steele; several grandchildren; sisters, Shelia Hunt and husband Howard and Freda Penley and husband Steve; brothers, Howard Steele and wife Elaine and Dickie Parker and wife Cindy; special father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert "Bob" and Edna Wampler; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Mr. Steele will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, in the Mountain View Mausoleum Chapel, with the Rev. Gene Fletcher officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m., prior to the funeral service.
Pallbearers will be Billy Bridgeman, Keith Cox, Denny Lambert, Doug Wilson, Bill Wilson and Herb Plank. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Powell Construction Co.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Brockmyre, Dr. Srinath and the doctors and staff at Duke University. Online condolences may be registered at www.weaverfuneralhome.net.
