Gartner

Poughkeepsie - Freddy. Fritz. Daddy. Papa. Anyone who knew him was better off for it. Frederick (Fritz) Peter Gartner, of Poughkeepsie, New York, passed away on 28 March 2016. Fritz truly loved his life and his family and the many people that were lucky enough to spend quality time with him. Fritz's love for life was tangible and infectious.

Fritz loved the beach, the Brooklyn Dodgers, the pool in his backyard, crossword puzzles, the Mets, seafood, his family, golf, WFAN, playing cards, politics, the ocean, grilling, Sammy, German pancakes, and the Jets. Not necessarily in that order.

Fritz was born to the late Frederick and Frieda Gartner, 04 August 1933, in Astoria, New York. He received a BA in Economics from Bucknell University in 1955. Fritz married Elizabeth (Bette) Corsilia in 1966, and they lived together in Pleasant Valley, New York for forty years before relocating to Poughkeepsie.

Fritz worked as a Manager of Informational Systems at IBM from 1956-1987, and then as an Administrative Computer Service Manager at Vassar College from 1988-1992. When he retired in 1992, Fritz had more time to spend doing what he loved, golfing (he had two holes in one!), playing senior softball, playing poker and bridge with friends.

Beyond all of this, and most importantly, Fritz was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather to his family. He was happiest spending time with his family, especially on the beach, Long Beach Island, where he would vacation to every year.

Fritz will be greatly missed by his wife of almost 50 years, Bette Gartner, and his four daughters and their families; Elizabeth Gartner and grandchildren Maximilian and Sydney Beauchene; Susan Gartner Michel, son-in-law Robert Michel, and grandchildren Alexander, Gabriella, and Lucas Michel; Leigh Gartner Jones and granddaughter Emma Jones; and Alison Gartner, son-in-law Greg VanKirk, and grandchildren EvaLuna Smith Gartner and Hudson VanKirk. 'Papa' will be missed so incredibly much by everyone. He was the best Papa ever! He was the best Daddy ever!

Freddy. Fritz. Daddy. Papa. He will be missed.

Let's Go Mets! J! E! T! S! Jets! Jets! Jets!

It was great knowing Fritz both in IBM and in later years at our weekly bridge game. Rest well friend...

Fritz, along with John Stone and Fred Weiss, guided and supported so many of us at IBM in the South Road Lab.

I'll never forget a party we had in his honor and presented him with a gift chainsaw. He apologized in his thank you note for poor handwriting, explaining that he was having trouble writing clearly with one less finger!

Thanks for everything you did for so many, Fritz, and rest in peace.
