Frederick Phillip "Fred" Maynard, aged 82, passed away on July 14, 2024, in Mesa, AZ. Born on February 26, 1942, in Deadwood, SD, Fred lived a life marked by dedication to his community, family, and a love for the outdoors.

Fred's early years were spent in Pluma, SD, where he attended primary school before graduating from Deadwood High School. He began his career working in a body shop with his father and went on to serve as a police officer and eventually Chief of Police in both Deadwood, SD, and Soldotna, AK. His commitment to public service was paralleled by his entrepreneurial spirit, which led him to co-own a refrigeration company in Anchorage, AK, and participate in the construction of the Alaska Pipeline.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Fred was an avid outdoorsman. Hunting, fishing, and woodworking were among his favorite activities, along with spoiling his many cats and dogs.

Fred is survived by his 6 children, 17 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, and his brother Franklin Maynard of Hot Springs, SD.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip F. Maynard and Olive L. Maynard of Pluma, SD, sister-in-law Nancy Maynard, Niece Kimberly Miiler of Ethan SD and his beloved wife, Jane Maynard of Kingman, AZ.

Graveside Services for Fred will be held on September 14th, 2024, at 2pm, Pringle Cemetery, 26213 Lime Kiln Rd, Custer, SD 57730.

A Wise Choice of Mesa, AZ, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Fred's legacy will be cherished by all who knew him, and his contributions to his communities will not be forgotten.

Grandpa was a big part of my life, I´ll miss him and grandma immensely. I know they are both happy to be reunited in Heaven, and they are waiting for all of us to join them in their garden in heaven (which I´m sure is already keeping grandpa busy with grandma´s ideas!). We can all be happy they are living where there is no more pain and suffering.
