Professor and Edward R. Weidlein Chair of Environment Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, died peacefully Friday, January 9, 2004, after a short illness. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Simmons Pohland of Fox Chapel; daughter Elizabeth Eda Pohland of Arlington, VA; three brothers, Paul A. Pohland of Albuquerque, NM, Albert E. Pohland of Laurel, MD, Edward K. Pohland of Sun City, AZ and one sister, Grace Glasco of Hickory, NC. Dr. Pohland was a member of the Oakland Rotary Club. He was active in many professional organizations, including the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Academy of Environmental Engineering and the National Academy of Engineering. He has received numerous honors and awards and is the author of more than 150 technical and scientific publications in his field. He will be deeply missed. Friends and relatives were received at H. SAMSON, INC. 537 N. Neville Street, Oakland, Monday, January 12th. A Memorial Service will be held at Heinz Chapel on the University of Pittsburgh campus, Friday, January 23rd, at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205 or to a charity of the donor's choice.   www.hsamsoninc.com
