Frederick Roseboom Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 5, 2008.
MIDDLEFIELD _ Frederick "Art" Roseboom, 75, died Friday, April 4, 2008, at his home on Harry Roseboom Road in the town of Middlefield, surrounded by his loving family.
Art was born Oct. 19, 1932, in the family home and was one of 13 children of Harry and Lucy (Pratt) Roseboom. He attended the two-room schoolhouse in Westville.
On March 29, 1967, he married Ida Tiffany in Elkton, Md. They raised their family in the same home in which he was raised, a home that has been in the Roseboom family for nearly 80 years.
Although he farmed for several years, Art will best be remembered as a highly respected and capable well driller. He worked for 34 years as a driller for Reed & Sons, Inc., in West Oneonta.
Art was a practical joker and had a great sense of humor. He loved to play cards, especially pitch and rummy. He enjoyed watching football and baseball and, because he didn't have his own favorite teams, he would simply bet against any team someone else was supporting, just to keep it interesting.
He loved to go out to breakfast and was a regular at Jackie's in Milford. He was an outdoorsman and sportsman and loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed dancing, especially square dancing, attending family gatherings and playing with his grandchildren. He was also known for the very "special care" he took of the lawn around the family home.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ida Roseboom; his four daughters, Lisa (Ken) Nydam, of Oneonta, Laurie (Dwight) Burch, of Milford, Sue (Brian) Pokorny, of Milford, and Julie Roseboom and her significant other, Joe Piscitello, of West Laurens; his three sons, Lloyd (Darlene) Roseboom, of Amsterdam, Jim (Tami) Tiffany, of Cooperstown, and Leon (Tammy) Roseboom, of Milford; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. In addition, Art is survived by his sister, Bernice Bachanas, of Fly Creek; his brother, Don (Alice) Roseboom, previously of Toddsville; and by many nieces and nephews, including one very special niece, Ramona Udovich. He is also survived by his first wife, Barbara, the mother of four of his children.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Paul, Bob, Freeman, Stanley, Leon, Rena, Bertha, Dorothy, Grace and Mary.
Funeral services for Art will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home, North Main Street, Milford, with Pastor Jack Klosheim of the Community Bible Chapel in Toddsville officiating. Following the service, the family will host a reception at the Milford American Legion on West Main Street in Milford.
Burial will be in the Westville Cemetery later in the spring.
In lieu of calling hours, the family will be present all weekend long at their home on Harry Roseboom Road, and they extend an open invitation to stop by and visit.
The family suggests, that those who so desire make contributions in Art's memory to either Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820 or the Milford Emergency Squad Co. No. 2, PO Box 359, Milford, NY 13807.
Arrangements are under the supervision of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Art was my classmate at our 2-room Westville School from third grade through
8th grade. Art, at times, was my only
classmate. I recall the day, after finishing
8th Grade Regents, we had to walk home, him on one side of the road and me on the other with no conversation. I was a bit shy
of boys and maybe he felt the same about
girls. It's fun to recall old memories.

Sorry for your loss.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. The world is a much richer place that Art shared with everyone his humor and sense of appreciation of life. I never got the chance to thank him for taking my family into his - Thanks Art. Nor the chance to ask 'how in the world' did you know I had the two of Clubs when you beat me soo bad the last time we played rummy.

My thoughts are with you all.

My heart goes out to Art's family, he will be missed greatly. Thinking back many years ago, Art and a bunch of us went out, we dug up a tree from someones lawn and took it to another town and transplanted it. What a fun loveing person Art was. I am thankful he was a friend of mine.
Bless your family.
